The pump can have certain limitations on the lift but it should produce enough water. Some of important effects of altitude in ground operations areLift distance from the surface of the water to the center of pump source is determined by altitudeWe have to ensure that 70 % of the pump capacity is placed at 15 feet lift and 60% of the pump capacity is within a 20 feet lift. The pump's dependable lift is the altitude where the water is expected to flow upward from the pump in order to provide a reliable flow of fire continuously.

In a realistic model, the ideal height of the highest lift preferred by the operator is 10 feet and there is an increase in the lift limitation when the altitude increases.Higher the altitude, lower will be the available quantity of water to the pump and higher lifts are considered as counterproductive. In a multi-tube operation the water source can be literally blocked by 30 feet of brush increasing the resistance of the pump.Equipment required for drafting vehicle should include 2500 to 3500 feet of LDH and pick up appliances with a minimum of 5 tubes for the draft engine.

An altitude of 3000 feet can be covered by the engine with a large hose bed having a short wheelbase and reduced resistance due to piping. These are some of the common effects of altitude in drafting operations.
