The team was highly reluctant to speak. He did not dwell much upon it and just overlooked their reticence just as a reaction to the introduction of a new element (manager) to their environment and thought that all their reservations would go as he settles in the team. As his term progressed he also noticed that the quality of work delivered by them was quite average. They were not regular with their attendance and came late to the office. He also heard them speaking very negatively about the organization.

They appeared complacent and wasted all their time in computing the pensions and other benefits they would accrue to them post-retirement this was the alarm and had put him into thinking shoes. He analyzed the composition of his team and studied their previous assignments. The average age of his team was about fifty and they had done a great job during that time of telecom age when the nature of work was manual and required them physically to move from one location to another to troubleshoot the problem and now with the advent of Computers and Computerized Systems there was nothing major for them to do i.e. the challenge was missing from their job and now their work was limited singularly to manage the files and monitor the network by seeing the alarms.

Having an approximate idea he just invited all of them to speak about their achievements in general and also asked them to describe the problems they were facing in their organization currently and also come up with a solution that could solve those. During the session, he could see a spark of achievement and passion in their eyes. Later on, they spoke to him.
