He was born Temujin, in 1162 in Boldog in northern Mongolia (Lange, 2003). He married at a young age of 16, but later had many wives. He was a determined young man who at the age of twenty developed a huge army with the intention of damaging individual tribes in Asia and joining them under his leadership. His father was a tribal chief of his tribe and following his death caused by the Mongols enemies, Genghis Khаn assumed the position of his father (Secinski, 2006). However, Gеnghis Khаn’s decision to take over the place of his father was met with objection from his father’s tribe who viewed him as too young to lead them. He was the initiator of the Mongol Empire which was the leading proximate empire in history following his demise Genghis Khan was born Temujin, and grew up in a hunters’ clan that migrated across the rocky plains (Lange, 2003). His young life was modelled through a series of fierce actions that include his father’s betrayal by their neighbouring tribe and the abandonment of his family to die on the cruel plain (Iggulden, 2008). However, Gеnghis Khаn tolerated the harsh conditions he lived in and he was compelled by a remarkable fury, to stay alive in the facade of death, to slay before being killed, and defeat his enemies. Genghis Khan rose to power through connecting scores of the northeast Asia nomadic tribes. None of the Mongolian tribal confederations were joined politically because arranged married were utilised to coagulate temporary alliances (Secinski, 2006). Following his proclamation as Genghis Khan, after he successfully formed the Mongol Empire, Genghis Khan initiated the Mongol attack that caused the defeat of Eurasia and during the final days of his existence, the Mongol Empire inhabited a great portion of China and central Asia. Via a series of audacious raids in opposition to the Tartars, Gеnghis Khаn prodigy developed, and so did the difficulties that he encountered such as abduction of Borte, his wife (Iggulden, 2008). His ferocious courage and his capacity to learn, imagine and judge others propelled him to greater power. He was chasing a vision that entailed joining many tribes and to make the world shudder under the sound of warhorses aimed at subjecting empires and unknown states to his will. He was one of the greatest, but a fiercest fighter of all time. He is worshiped as a Mongolia national hero who reunified the disorganized inner Mongolia to create a grand civilization. He formed major contributions to the establishment of the influential Yuan Dynasty besides the confederation of China. According to Unoki (2012), Montesquieu, a French political thinker condemned Gеnghis Khаn as a cruel conqueror who damaged Asia through his ruthless leadership and conducts. However, from the 20th century, the Mongols and their key historical leader, Gеnghis Khаn, have become mixed with some historians distinguishing his achievements (Unoki, 2012). They view Gеnghis Khаn in a positive light and as a true hero who fought for his people. The cultural and material exchanges between the West and the East under the Mongol rule are viewed in a positive light. The Essay Introduction A hero is an individual admired for his brave or great actions while a villain is a brutally malicious individual involved or committed to crime or wickedness. Even though Gеnghis Khаn united scores of Asian nomadic tribes and fought for his people, he killed so many people and abused young girls. He was a great hero reunified the disorganized Inner Mongolia to create a grand civilization through his courageous and fierce character, and a villain who subjected people to suffering. According to Secinski (2006), Gеnghis Khаn changed many individuals and formed a nation, and a great army in comparison with all the armies of the past. He led the Mongol army to defeating the unknown world and the conquest was compelled between 2 to 3 centuries through his descendents. In this regard, Gеnghis Khаn was a hero because of his leadership abilities. He was a very triumphant leader who was loyal and just to his people. Besides he was a radiant individual with a very good and organized army that was ready to protect his people. Gеnghis Khаn, on the other hand, was a villain because he put a blaze over one hundred villages for his own pressure. At times he would kill his own people to claim victory of war besides abusing girls from other villages. In addition, he put scores of people in the way of destruction, and his cruelty was known by many (Secinski, 2006). Gеnghis Khаn and his descents are in general described as causing great destruction and damage. His descendents, and, in particular, the Mongols are remembered for their fierce military, ruthless, destructive conquests and toughness. To the people and states that he conquered, Gеnghis Khаn was a villain. He would kill soldiers with no mercy (Lange, 2003). He used to set different coloured tent to entice people to surrender and honour him, and he would spare them. When people failed to surrender, he would set up red tents indicating that no capitulate is acceptable and he would kill them all. When Gеnghis Khаn invaded Yenking presently known as Beijing and failed to get through the city wall, he cordoned the city for four years making people inside the city to starve while others fed on dead bodies. When thousands of young girls jumped the city wall to escape being killed for food, Gеnghis Khаn threatened to kill them, but the city emperor intervened. The siege ended with the emperor of the city paying tribute to Gеnghis Khаn and sending his daughter (Lange, 2003). This is an indication Gеnghis Khаn had no heart and respect for human life and he was only concerned with his own desires. He made people suffer for his own selfish gains, hence a villain. Gеnghis Khаn was a hero to his people and those who loved him. Although he conquered an entire state through a lot of bloodshed where thousands were killed in the name of conquest and war, he served his people right and they admired his courage (Secinski (2006). Gеnghis Khаn was a brilliant strategist who used cunning way to trick his enemies; he would utilise fake withdrawals, straw models on horses and concealed reserves to edge the enemy. Such brilliant strategies can be applicable in the modern society when fighting the enemy The reputation of Gеnghis Khаn, although has changed over time was dire. People described him as a great destroyer, a dire plague and a wild Scythian military man bred to arms and who took part in blood trade. However, Gеnghis Khаn is credited for leading the world in the modern age, and he is noted as a good agent of globalisation. According Unoki (2012), Gеnghis Khаn is among the most influential figures in history of human kind. Since 2006, the Chinese celebrate Gеnghis Khаn as their key national hero although he was dismissed previously by Mao Zedong, a great helmsman, as a nomad with no culture (Unoki, 2012).. Gеnghis Khаn is a hero because he hold a clear legacy and he is remembered by his people particularly, the Mongolians. He has startling effect on the Asian population. His empire broadened across Asia and his military invasions were regularly categorized through the indiscriminate massacre of the conquered. His descendents surpassed the empire and upheld authority in the area for hundreds of years (Iggulden, 2008). His lineage is wide spread with his many sons and grandsons having many children across the Asia where it is believed that he had a permanent genetic effect. Gеnghis Khаn is a historical figure with so many deaths linked to him. However, he is remembered as an intrepid Mongolian leader who united all the Mongol tribes besides conquering Korea, Persia, India, China and some regions of Europe, Middle East and Russia. Gеnghis Khаn has an imperial legacy where the Mongol Yuan Dynasty was established by one of his descendants. Khan also revolutionized the conventional law and social structure (Lange, 2003). Notwithstanding his barbaric and ruthless reputation, Khan promulgated numerous enlightened policies that became widespread practice in Europe for many years. He established religion freedom through shielding the rights of Hindus, Christians, Buddhists and Muslims. Khan also protected ambassadors and enemy envoys. However, Gеnghis Khаn is remembered as a bloodthirsty oppressor, but he was a sensible conqueror who rose from slavery and poverty to govern the world (Iggulden, 2008). He created one the biggest empires in the history of human kind before the British kingdom. Conclusion Villains and heroes usually hold different qualities, and this demonstrates the significance of being able to determine characters as evil or good. A villain is categorized through power, and he uses this power to attain his own ends. The actions of a villain generate problems and the hero’s tale is the procedure of resolving the problem through preventing the plans of the villain. Villains are powerful and opposed to the society and their crimes are not noble. A hero, on the other hand, entails a person of distinguished ability or courage, admired for his noble qualities and brave deeds. Gеnghis Khаn fits both the definition of a villain and a hero. He was a ruthless leader who killed many people, tortured others and made others to experience intense suffering. On the other hand, he united different tribes to create a large Empire. He conquered his enemies through blood shed, but he left a mark in many people’s heart. Though a villain due to his cruel leadership style and conducts, he formed one of the largest empires after British Empire, established globalization and he is credited for leading the world in the modern age. To those he defeated and killed, he was a villain, but to his proponents, he was a hero. References Iggulden, C. (2008). Genghis: Birth of an Empire. New York: Bantam Dell. Lange, B. (2003).
