According to puritans, the actions of the church did not rhyme with the biblical readings. Puritans, thus, were noted during the 17th century because of their spirit of moral and religious earnestness that informed their holy ways of life (Martin 56). The Church of England was too formal and conducted mass services, in the same way, every day. Additionally, Puritans were opposed to the faith that the congregation experienced in the privacy of one’s thoughts. Because of these reasons, the Puritans wanted to purify the church by introducing new ways of worship characterized by liveliness and instituting a public domain into their ways of worship.
The Puritans were actually extremely excited about Biblical truths and did not want anybody to hide them under Roman superstitions and human traditions. The idea of personal Biblical interpretation was central to Puritan beliefs. Seeking both individual and corporate conformity was the primary objective of Puritans. Puritans believed that human beings existed for the glory of God and their first concern in life consisted of doing the will of God in order to receive future happiness. The movement of Puritans was riven over decades due to emigration and inconsistent interpretations of scriptures.
