Queen Rania From running away from war to living in the palace, Queen Rania’s life is a story of success. Rania’s real s are Rania al Yassin. He was born on the last day of August 1970 in Kuwait to Palestine parents (Bio, 2014). Her father was a doctor in Tulkarm, a west bank town, where she and her two brothers and sisters were raised. She went for her early education at New English School in Kuwait, and later went to Egypt for further studies at the American University in Cairo. She got a degree in Business Administration (Bio, 2014).
While she was in Egypt studying, her family together with other thousands of families had to leave the gulf, especially Kuwait in 1991 (Bio, 2014). They went ahead to live in a Jordan town called Amman. She later went to study in Egypt. She worked for a short time at Citibank but later moved to Apple Computers offices in Amman. The year 1993 made a big change in her life. In January the same year, the sister of Prince Abdullah II bin al-Hussein of Jordan made a party in which Rania accompanied a workmate from Apple Company. She met the prince and the two fell in love with each other. Their engagement came just two months after the meeting. The two got married within just six months of their first meeting. Her process of becoming a queen depended on prince Abdullah becoming the King. This seemed not possible at the moment as Prince Abdullah’s uncle was to be named the King after King Hussein Bin Talal. The king did what no one expected. Having ruled since 1952, the King’s death was coming closer than ever. A few days before his death, on February 7 1999, he said his own son, Prince Abdullah, is to be the King of Jordan (Bio, 2014). Rania’s making queen came at the age of 28, just six week after prince Abdullah became King. Having made public her views on television, the king stated that Queen Rania was a good choice because she will be able to work with the local people. She was a good choice because she understood what the people wanted or needed (Bio, 2014). The king and queen now have four children; two boys and two girls. The first born is price Hussein, born in June 28th 1994. Hussein was supposed to become the king in July 2009. The second child is princess Iman, born on 27 September 1996. The third child is princess Salma who was born on 26th September 2000. The last child is prince Hashem who was born 30th January 2005 (Bio, 2014).
The Queen feels that it is a good thing for her to be in a position because she will help the local people in different ways. She said stating that it is her responsibility to do her best with the opportunity. Besides being a wife and a mother she is an advocate and a humanitarian (Bio, 2014). A lot of her time is used to listening to and speaking with the people of Jordan to help her be in a position of improving their lives and to help Jordan grow.
Her campaign is used to seeing Jordan adopt an education system that is whole in its approach. She asks organizations and agencies to work on improving quality in classroom, standards of teaching and computer accessibility. In she supports family involvement, community engagement and health awareness. Her educational project such as Madrasati and the Teachers Academy have helped children build quality foundation in life as they aid in repairing and reconstructing local schools, and being an inspiration to teacher to target their very best. Her belief is based on the fact that a working relationship where the public, private and non profit sectors would do a lot of work to change the system of education in Jordan and make it more good (Queen Rania Al Abdullah, 2014).
Her poverty fighting attempts in the last ten years have brought good results. Queen Rania runs an NGO, the Jordan River Foundation (JRF) whose major work is improving the lives of those disadvantaged in Jordan, by giving families knowledge and skills to lift their living standards out of being poor (Queen Rania Al Abdullah, 2014). This organization has worked with the private institutions and the whole community to see improvement in the lives of members of the community by bringing resources such as energy, empowering and inspiring them to the level where they believe they can make a difference for themselves and the ones they love. Jordan River Foundation is widely recognized for its achievements towards rescuing and protection of children who have been abused, and even bringing healing in families. The organization is a mark of good work that is involved in sharing knowledge and experiences in Jordan and out of Jordan.
Queen Rania’s support for children does not end in the country. The queen supports children in other countries also. Her effort to ensure that children get good education is felt in different parts of the world. She campaigns on behalf of children with global organizations such as UNICEF where she is an important advocate and UNGEI where she holds the position of Honorary Chair Person (Queen Rania Al Abdullah, 2014). She participates as a board member in other organizations such as the Clinton Global Initiative and the World Economic Forum. Given that she is an Arab and of the faith of Islam, she works to bring people of different faiths together and encourage cross- cultural dwelling among different people, more specifically the young people. Her campaign works for children and also extended to writing. She is the writer of a New York best selling book meant for children known as “The Sandwich Swap”. The book is a story about two young girls named Lily and Salma, who through exchanging food learn essential life lessons of the importance of diversity. She also authored two other books by the title ‘The King’s Gift’ and ‘Eternal Beauty’ (Queen Rania Al Abdullah, 2014).
Queen Rania uses different mediums to talk with people. She turned to technology to talk to the western world against stereotypical view of the Middle East as backward. She moved to create her own YouTube channel in an aim to engage the world in understanding their point of view of the Middle East. She had a massive 1.4 million hits with her first video. Besides she is on twitter, Facebook that have a large following and likes respectively, she also has her own website (Bio, 2014).
Her beauty has also seen her stand out in many occasions, giving her an instant icon in the international arenas. She has been photographed in at beauty events such as fashion shows and social events for high class people together with beautiful celebrities considered as elites globally (Bio, 2014). Despite her global connections and commitments, she still manages to live a normal life. In 2013 she started her own Instagram page just to give people a glimpse into her daily normal life, in one of her photos she is seen relaxing to her daughter’s music, in the other she is having dinner with the family. Some of her photos show she is also close to big and important people such as the former president of US Bill Clinton, President Barack Obama and Former South African President Nelson Mandela (Peppers, 2013).
Queen Rania has contributed to my life in that she has called on the government to offer good education to children of Jordan. `In my view, the life of Queen Rania will always stand out to be an inspiration to any reasonable person. Having grown up in the gulf war areas of Kuwait, and later forced to move back to Palestine, none of these deterred her from being what she is. From a humble background to being a Queen, to being a mother, an advocate and a humanitarian is a good show of working hard and success. With her status some would have chosen to be comfortable and ignore the rest of the world. She chose to help the people of Jordan to get quality education, live peacefully, get quality life, and positive thinking. This makes her very good leader in this century. I would like to be like the queen.
