Hitler’s table talk, 1941-1944 Various analysts have given varying view on the famous 1941-44, Hitler’s table talk. However, they caution that, in order to acquire the deepest meanings in this conversation, it is important the reader carefully read and scrutinize all the words pronounced by Hitler. The content in the table talk may seem too unreal. It is, therefore, the responsibility of the reader to be more keen in all aspects of the conversations. Kershaw (p.407) argues that, for proper and efficient discovery of Hitler’s themes in the conversation, it is mandatory that all the sentences are scrutinized in the context of the conversation and character in question. He, therefore, recommends the use of the secret table talk not other conversations that had some public aspects. From Hitler’s conversation, various themes are evident. Hitler is quoted to talk about the environment, money matters, culture, war, religion amongst other issues. One of the topics clearly depicted from Hitler’s conversation are his views on religion, Christianity to be specific. According to Hitler (p.800) the theme of Christianity has been very controversial over the decades in the context of Hitler and his form of governance. From the conversation, it is evident that Hitler criticizes Christianity openly. He is disgusted with the way Christians conduct their way of life and is much more disgusted with God! According to Hitler (p.144), Hitler terms Voltaire and Paine as infidels who hold no common sense in the kind of judgments they make in regard to religion. Hitler is quoted criticizing God on his delight upon seeing people bowing before His thrown (p.144). Hitler supports his view by claiming, even the strict Catholics do not believe in bowing before the Lord. To add on to this ridicule, Hitler criticizes people who go to church especially the old women, for having no hope in life and only go to church because they had nothing better to do. Justification can be said that Hitler had no belief in the existence of Christianity through his continuous ridicule of the religion, worse still those who have great importance to Christianity. Hitler, Cameron, Trevor-Roper (p.144) indicate that Hitler regarded religion as a catastrophe that denied human beings the chance to be happy through fear of rebellion. Hitler believes that all people have a right to lead the kind of life they desire having no fear of an illusion force watching over their lives. This can be illustrated on Hitler, Cameron, Trevor-Roper work (p.66) where Hitler portrays complete disgust to the thoughts and aspirations of people of going to heaven once they die. He even poses a question and asks what becomes of young children who end up dying without introduction to the gospel of God. Throughout the conversation, Hitler is completely disgusted with the view on Christianity and heaven. He even argues that Christian ideologies contradict themselves. If one has to live a complete life on earth to go to heaven, Hitler questions what other life is there to be continued in heaven. He even thinks that the church only develops a methodology of acquiring revenues from poor and desperate people in the society who need to be lied to, to have hope in life. In the conversation, he asks in a very disgusting manner, why the owners of churches have not devised other means of acquiring wealth (Hitler, Cameron, Trevor-Roper p. 312). During the conversation, Hitler utters in repugnance, how Christianity has caused a lot of problems in the world. These problems have taken shape in the form of humiliation of the members of public, false fabrications and excessive cruelty. He even regards Christianity as the worst form of regeneration human beings have encountered. If Christianity was true, Hitler questions why the religion has caused destruction on the people, who believe in Christianity doctrines and beliefs. Facts have to be explained and not only description of metaphysical concepts which have no meanings at all (Richardson p.179). Christianity being infectious- according to Hitler- Hitler says that the disease has to be eliminated for the world to move forward. In short, Hitler has no regard to Christianity as a form of religion. “People should be free to have in their hearts, what they feel is right and not governed by some form of religion,” Hitler utters (Hitler, Cameron, Trevor-Roper p.88). Human beings should, therefore, have the freedom to conduct any form of religion so long it is based on reason, Christianity exempted from the case. The second possible theme from Hitler’s conversation has a high correlation with the role of women in governance and protective measures to people of varying view to theirs. According to Hitler, women were of great benefit in his term as a ruler. Though Hitler had different views on the participation of women in politics, from the talk, it is evident that Hitler does not consider women as mere child bearers but useful mechanism of governance (Hitler, Cameron, Trevor-Roper p.254). Hitler praises women for their ability to multi task and not only sit and watch occurrences taking shape in the society. He praises film makers, decorators and other women who play various roles in the society for their contributions in making the society a success. Hitler indicates that such kind of women must earn the wages that they deserve with no complications at all (Hitler, Cameron, Trevor-Roper p.493). Hitler regards such women as important pillars in the society for not playing the dependent roles on men. The next theme that comes out clearly in Hitler’s talk is his hatred for International capitalism ideologies. Hitler’s form of ruling was unique from that of any other state in the country. He used forceful methods to rise to power that may be attributed from his childhood background. Hitler considered himself an advocate of liberalism but form his conversation; it is easy to tell his belief in autarchy, an ideology that does not support free market. According to Langer (p.99) Hitler aims at alienating his country from the intercontinental trading system, which will assist in breaking ties with the capitalists who seem to steal resources from his country. Hitler is quoted saying that capitalists are thieves who always find new ways to penetrate into other peoples’ affairs for their own benefit. With anti-capitalism beliefs in mind, Hitler is seen to converse optimistically that he has the ability to create an independent Europe free of trade dealings with the Americans. He believes that Europe should be the dominating continent, now that his country was rich in all manner of resources that would lead to its industrialization process. In short, Hitler appreciates the efforts of the common people, who have endeavored to steer the country towards achievement. From the talk, it is evident that Hitler is a major supporter of fair trade that puts his countrymen first unlike, the proposed free deal. As far as Hitler’s talk is concerned, his style of leadership is a major topic of discussion. He is one of the most industrious people and politicians ever recorded in history. Though Hitler never learnt economics in his life, his conversation indicates how much goods he desires his people will achieve. He anticipates that his people will live a productive- according to him- like his. His lifestyle is characterized by healthy living, love for the environment, anti-smoking and a vegetarian. Hitler- Hitler, Cameron, Trevor-Roper (p.119) - hopes to bring up a society that will encompass all the attributes of healthy and sensible living. He openly airs his view on his nation’s well being and his endeavor to steer it to the highest level in his power. Hitler really has a vision and mission for his country from his comments on intrusion of aliens into his state as a way of destroying the efforts of his populace. Hitler also hopes that his people will lead a productive and healthy life like he does. Finally, the holocaust issue is evident from Hitler’s table talk. Hitler does not support the views of many people who have endeavored to prove that Nazis were out to eradicate all Jews globally. Richardson (p.144) indicates that Hitler stated that he had no time and energy to terminate Jews in the world. Hitler is quoted saying that Jews may have immigrated to other areas on their own will and that he has nothing to do with their immigration. Hitler holds the opinion that all people in Germany’s corners must be of German descent to avoid any forms of contamination from other races (Richardson p.149). Hitler’s table talk is rich in themes that relate to Hitler and his ruling. This essay has identified and discussed five themes that are evident from Hitler’s talks.
