Does War Advance Civilization Contrary to the common beliefs that war is the source of evils, a sign of punishment from gods and that war has the only adverse impact. However, it has been proven that war has a bunch of positive effects on society and a country that vary depending on the cause and where the war occurred, although these effects are not easily pointed out. The most common negative impacts include; loss of human lives, economic losses because of the destruction of the state’s economy, spread of diseases, displacement of people and environment delegation, among others. These adverse impacts have a significant effect on society or country. Basing prove during the world war I and II, it is true that war has brought positive results to states, in particular, development, such as; urbanization, technology developments, correction of terrible injustices and, in general, advancement of civilization. In this research paper, we shall discuss the impacts of war and its influences progress of civilization (Smith et al. 23-140). Civilization is any multifarious society characterized by urban expansion, social stratification, emblematic communication forms and a perceived natural environment by culture, civilization is referred to as advancement. Civilization is intimately associated with social, political and economic characteristics including centralization, specialization of labour, monumental architecture, taxation, and social dependence. War has a profound impact on technology, the World War II being an example of a global war led to technology advancements that were and are still of great benefits, for instance, the development of air travel technology that was brought about by the end of the World War II. Through this, there was the promotion of transport that made it possible and easy to travel across the world. This advancement has made the world a global village whereby someone can quickly travel across the world with a span of a moment. The advancement has aided in advancing civilization and thus proving that war can influence civilization (Fullerton 3-17). Second, war has an impact on technological progress in the medical science arena. AFR contributed to the need to preserve more lives in case of war and to invent better ways of killing enemies using science technology. The use of scientific methods to fight was evident during the world war I and II, where scientific and medical inventions were advanced, for instance after the world war I, countries like Russia were on the front line to invent better methods of fighting after they had been defeated. Second after the World War II, many soldiers were killed and some injured in the battle, states involved in the war found the need to maintain and save the wounded soldiers and therefore, medical advancements were enhanced to keep the soldiers. Through the advancements that are still in use up to date are of great benefit in the medical fields and science inventions another example of the medical fields and scientific inventions is the surgery, this was after the World War, this great invention was perfected later in the 20th century and has up to date been used in medical field . Through these developments, civilization has been promoted and thus advancing civilization in our modern society (Julie and Michael 130-167) In connection war leads to advancements on labour force especially labour specialization, it is evident from previous wars like the world war I and II that the defeated country were obliged to be submissive to the second country. Through this, the individuals of the state are made slaves of the inferior country; the slaves are used as labour forces. In cases of technical fields like medicine and industrialization, the country captures experts and takes advantage of their skills, through this the country advances in productivity and connection prompting labour specialization an instance is after the World War countries like France took advantage of the situation and captured specialists in medical arena and science field. This made France advance as it had experts in these fields. In addition, science inventions by scientist were then visible after the World War and this proved of the benefits of war. Through this, it is true that war can aid in the advancement of civilization in a society or a country. On the other hand, war has a positive economic impact on the society. For instance during the world War I, countries like the United States required more soldiers to mobilize military activities, through this unemployment was reduced and thus increasing labour force and the working population. The increase in the labour force has an impact on increasing the net income of a state, through this poverty is eradicated in the society and thus promoting development (Cooper 140-250 ). War has led to urbanization and industrialization, through war, a country may expand its territories on its neighbouring land and thus increasing geographically. Through this expansion, more land is made available for urbanization and industrialization. Besides, urbanization exposes a country to many benefits among them being; the country can produce cheaper products, the country is also able to be self-sufficient in production, and lastly the state increases the life expectancy of the citizens, this is because of improving the living standards of the citizens (Pau 56-148). For instance improving health services and sanitation. In connection to that, an industrialized country becomes more dominant over those that are not industrialized, making them dependent on the industrialized countries. It is an advantage to the modern state since it may become a super power country and therefore, controlling major activities and resources in the world. Apart from making a country a powerful, industrialization creates more employment opportunities to both skilled and unskilled personnel and thus improving their living standards, through this it is evident that war has an influence on the civilization of a state (Sun 48-79) In conclusion, even though the war has adverse effects, it also has some distinguished positive impacts, and it is reasonable to conclude that despite the number of negative results the few positive effects substantially contribute to civilization that is of benefit to the society. Some of the benefits may include industrialization and urbanization, technology advancement and lastly economic developments. References Cooper, Milton. .
