Baroque Period Baroque Period The Baroque is a period of artistic style that used extravagant motion that was clear in interpreting fashion and art. The Era started around 1600 and ended around 1750 and it included composers who pioneered new styles. The play “The Imaginary Invalid” by Moliere, which was premiered on 10 February 1673 helps in understanding the Baroque period. The play uses new artistic styles in theatres and advertisements to make the play interesting and to portray the behaviours of different characters.
The play “the imaginary Invalid,” uses the portrait to show the base of the comedy. The play revolves around a wealth man and his family. The portrait shows how the wealthy man lives like a king in a palace and how he is in command in his home. The portrait shows how art developed as people learnt to make special sections appear in their drawings. The self-portrait shows Argan who is a character in the play. It portrays his physical appearance and the characterful face of the character. He is an old wealthy man with two wives and three children.
He is the head of the household and a proud person who always wants to be involved with rich people. He is always joyful even though he is ill and is married to an ill-minded woman who plans to take his wealth after he dies. The portrait shows the play in progress. The portrait focuses on fashion by showing the great outfits worn by the characters. In this portrait, Angelique and his father show their differences. Argan decides to marry his eldest daughter to a young doctor in order he could have a doctor by his side.
On the other hand, his daughter wants to marry another man who she falls in love with and so he refuses his father’s proposal. This results to a conflict between Argan and his daughter but eventually he is convinced and accepts the situation. The painting appears to be an extension of real space. It makes the viewers feel like their taking part in the scene. The play uses this paint to show how Thomas Diaafoirus, a graduated physician, looks on his father Doctor Diafoirus to negotiate his marriage to Angelique with Argan.
Thomas wants to marry Angelique since she is a beautiful woman. He asks his father to accompany him in negotiating the marriage since he knows that his father is a good friend of Argan who is Angelique’s father. Argan also is in the fever of Thomas marrying his daughter since he wants a doctor by her side to treat him when he is ill. Argan’s house cleaner, Toinette is on the other side eavesdropping the negotiations so that he can tell Angelique. She knows that Angelina hates Thomas since she is in love with Cleante.
The paint also displays fashion that makes it even more interesting. Argan and Doctor Diafoirus have unique male garments, which are of different colour and shape. The garments have ruff and falling collars that are relaxed and casual. They are also long to display the change in the make of shorter men’s garments to long garments. Thomas is also wearing unique outfit has unique shoulders and legs. In addition, the unique shoes worn by the characters show the changes in design and make of shoes.
The play show how new artistic style are rising and making changes to the old styles. The play uses different designs in making the play more interesting and appealing to people’s eyes. The arts are of unique designs and pay attention on people’s emotions and appearance in the play. People have develop passion in fashion and art. Fashion and art is the key to making an awesome play that people will enjoy.
