Rodney King’s verdict and riots Background Information The verdict related to Rodney King took place in the year 1992 at Los Angeles. It resulted to a span of five days rioting that left more than 2,000 people injured and more than 50 people dead. The riot destroyed over one thousand buildings that costs an approximately 1 billion dollars. In order to restore order, 9,800 California guard troops were deployed and approximately 12,000 people were arrested despite not all being directly involved in the rioting[Reb14].

Rodney King was beaten by officers of LAPD after he had led the high-speed chase in the riot and video evidence depicts Rodney struck by police more than 5o times with more than 20 officers present. This resulted to more injuries and 11 fractures. In the verdict Rodney is released without being charged neither is the responsible Officers convicted by the courts resulting to the eruption of the riot. Learnt LessonsThe lesson learnt from the riot and verdict of Rodney king’s ordeal brings panic in connection to modern racism in developed countries.

These affect the marginalized races within the entire society and community at large. The panic resulting to fear in lack of justice and being trailed to be inflicted more incase one pursues justice. The action of the police depicts fallibility and creating tension and strives for civil rights movement to oversee police behavior in the society. Police brutality requires to be administered and new measure put in place in order to re-gain civilian trust on the police system. Rodney King’s situation is a clear concern for the restructuring of major service oriented public institutions and workplace[Rob131].

This is fundamental in creating social responsibility and good relation between the government systems and administrators and the civilian within the United States.Rodney’s situation resulted to a look into police cover ups and brutality. The witness of the riot by the world was a clear protest of racial equality and resulted to current situation of advancement in racial equality in many parts of the world. The situation and verdict opened the understanding of everyone as being important and of value rather than wasteful and require respect and justice[Wal07].

This resulted to reduced issues of excessive force being used in the American policing which was real in the past. In the year 2008 documentary, it was evident that black parents had with their sons have been how to react when stopped by police. This type of conversation has become a national conversation that still exists in United States. Relation to Current StateThe key change in police system that has transpires includes police hires and community relationships with regard to police department concerning riots.

Rodney King’s verdict and riot elevated discussions on juries’ racial composition and trial locations. Despite not being the first time in considering such a discussion, the case resulted as a benchmark for best practices teaching for both jury selection and police department. The aspect of racism also goes beyond just black and white conversation to multi-cultural communities, nationalities and economic challenges and tension[Che]. This aspect still remains a hindrance in the attainment of civil rights in many areas of administration and social setting within the American community currently.
