According to Payne (2008), the Germans failed to accomplish their mission considering that it had the advantage of using airships, which were only able to drop 300 tons of bombs despite the capability to drop a big number where more damage and loss of lives could have been recorded. Moreover, Germany failed to make any economic value from the war as it incurred more loss from the war owing to its big expenditure budget, which was five times the cost of damage to Britain’s property.  Lastly, more than half of German airships were destroyed while only 40% of the German service branch engaged in the war were able to return home (Payne, 2008).

According to Payne (2008), the actual impact of the air raids from German airships was considerably low but the same cannot be said of the psychological effect that it had on the civilians and the kin of British servicemen who were based overseas. The German airships and in particular the Zeppelin as a weapon of war created more fear among the British citizens and it contributed to a complete loss of military and civil morale, which made it appear as if the Germans had already won the war since everyone was asking themselves how they will survive such weapons of mass destruction.
