The references have been taken from Zollner (1998) and Sandri (1997). Zollner discusses the Three Graces from a contextual point of view making the Three Graces a pious symbol of expectation in the form of painting while Sandri stresses a critical stance on the subject of the Three Graces merely defining them as a subject of art which is in the form of sculpture.

The author Zollner has appointed a descriptive way of discussing the painting of Three Graces. The medium of the painting is an oil canvas that beholds the three ladies wearing their respective attires. These attires, however, have been avoided in sculpture. Along with the discussion of the painting in the address of Zollner, he also provides the significance of the theme of the Three Graces. The color of the three ladies is blended in the painting because of the possibility of using a variety of strokes by the painter. This is far different in the case of sculpture as it is made up of white marble (Zöllner).

On the other hand, the author Sandri has critically discussed the Three Grace's depiction in sculpture. In the following image, it can easily be noted that the true essence for which the three ladies were named as chastity, joy, and love is missing from the sculpture. The clarity of bodily shape is missing and so is the expression of chastity. However, it can be well asserted that it is not easy to task for an artist to create a sculpture that gives enhancement to each feature. In comparison, it comes quite easier to note that painting, as well as sculptor, makes use of the support that each girl takes by putting her hands on each other’s shoulder. This is one common aspect other than the front and back nude carving of the bodies of the Three Graces.

The factor of using adjunct lines and outlines in the painting is quite evident. This is lesser in the case of sculpture because it provides a three-dimensional experience to art lovers. The lines can easily be drawn by painters to make sure that the subject of the painting is easily presented in motion. This is difficult in the case of sculptures because of the difficulty of carving. On a closer look, one can notice that the sculpture beholds a tattooed henna design on the bodies of the Three Graces. This shows art lovers the beauty that has been beheld by the ladies who have a great deal of pious and honored personalities in the history of art (Sandri). As observed, art lovers give more credit to the painter of the Three Graces because they believe that the true message cannot be delivered without the contoured bodies. Nevertheless, sculptures remain a very critical and significant element in art.

Through the above analysis, it comes to the understanding that the historic subject of art i.e. the Three Graces remains one of the most significant art themes in the work of different artists. The synthesis of both the works and depiction with the help of painting and sculpture makes one understand the nature and mediums of art that can bring a great difference. Both the mediums of sculpture and painting present joy, love, and chastity in such a manner that it beholds the true essence in somewhat differing manners. At one point, art lovers may be able to experience the hues of the painting but at the same time, the sculpture would provide more texture to the element of Three Graces.
