There are many events which are associated with the social reform movement of 1800. Congressional reconstruction is one such event in the history of USA. As far as the history of USA is concerned, historians often associated two particular events of the history to the reconstruction era. One part of reconstruction era is concerned with the time period of 1865 to 1877 (Murphy, 2003). This was the period when USA had just dealt with the civil war in the country. The reconstruction era reflects the rebuilding of society and state on modern basis (Harris, 2004). The second part of reconstruction was associated with the transformation of Southern states of USA. President Abraham Lincoln was the major players of setting up state’s government on a new pattern (Chused, 1994).
Social reforms of 1800s’ have an important association with the future of USA. Today USA has Afro-American President who has been elected for two consecutive years. The person taken to work is the slave and the employer is the master or mistress. This paper however, focuses on a comparison of changes in the lives of slaves in America between 1700s and 1800s. Development of slave trade It started in prehistoric era and has been practiced for a long period of time while in America; it began in 1630s due to sugar, tobacco and other plantations that required more human workforce.
It had its birth as a response to the large number of changes brought about by modernization in the early years of twentieth century. In the first quarter of the century, migration was in its peak leading to 13 to 15% foreigners in the total population. There was mass movement of people to the cities, large scale development of railroads, and corporations, and consequently, there was widespread fear of corruption and malpractices.
The British wanted to re-consolidate their control over their empire in North America. The dispute grew into a war over authority when the colonists differed in the opinion with the British over their attempt to re-consolidate policy and authority. The colonists opted for violence by burning English officials effigies, rioting, boycotting imports, and forming vigilante groups all in the name of expressing their dissatisfaction and opposition.
The conclusion from this study states that the issues started to arise immediately women began becoming important in the society by acquiring a better education that enabled them to become teachers leading to the displacement of the men as well as participating in politics of the country.
