An advantage for having the information center within the site is to harmonize, the concept of the memorial site with individual documentation concerning the Holocaust victims and their families. Hence, visitors do not just get to express their somberness, but they get to learn more about these victims and understand how typical they were through their biographical details. Furthermore, the information center assists in the broader documentation and education of universal concerns of genocide. The downsize of the information center is that it can be perceived as presenting a new thought or memory, discrete from nostalgia, more of a public relation gimmick.

The monument was designed by an American, Peter Eisenman, as a tribute to the Jews who died before and during World War II. It is located on what used to be the Ministry Gardens, next to a large complex of buildings which included the Reich Chancellery, Hitler’s main office. After the war, it was used to be part of the Berlin Wall. The memorial occupies a total space of 19,000 square meters (205,000 square feet) and consists of 2,711 unmarked gray stone slabs....

Holocaust Memorial

... My Personal Reaction to an Architectural Work Peter Eisenman’s video, Building Germany’s Holocaust Memorial, was about abeautiful monument called “The Field of Stelae”. In an aesthetic viewpoint, it is beautiful and even haunting. The structures are supposed to be reminiscent of fields blowing in the wind and I can see the amount of work it took to build it. Each structure is built in different heights. They are supposed to disorient the person walking through the memorial. I would like to visit the memorial to experience the fun of it. When I see it, I don’t know how to react. It is like walking through a distorted field of black blocks. I think the memorial is supposed to invoke fear, confusion, and a feeling of orderliness... . This is...

.... I could just visualize how lonely it looks in winter as the victims of Holocaust fought for dear life. I carry on with me such interpretation because I have seen the film “Schindler’s List” that showed that dark age in modern history. The Field of Stelae accomplished its purpose by presenting something simple yet provocative. Undoubtedly, Peter Eisenman is a genius for he has successfully conveyed all the horrors of the Holocaust using uneven structures. The memorial is hauntingly beautiful that it never fails to attract tourists. Although it is a scar from humanity’s wound, Germany is very humble to devote much time and resources in building the...

Eitherv the Building of the Holocaust Memorial

...?XXX XXX XXX XXX Reflection David Cole Interviews Dr. Franciszek David Cole had conducted a wonderful investigation. His video has taught me a lot about Auschwitz and the Holocaust. Cole made many decisive blows about the Holocaust and he creates a strong argument. From all of the evidence he reveals hidden truths about Germany’s past. Was the Holocaust as bad as it was publicized to be? I find it interesting how we are still taught the Holocaust in school when there is so much evidence showing that the Holocaust is not half as bad as we are taught. We are taught that internment camps consisted of forced labor with the smell of death...

The Final Solution

...?The Final Solution “The Final Solution”, a frequently debated issue among critics of the Hitler dynasty has its footholds in the initial period of 20th century. “The Final Solution” is referred to the plan developed by Nazi leaders of Germany to annihilate the Jewish natives of the country (United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, “The Holocaust”). The period was an exclusive mixture of reality and mystery. In the words of Mattogno (2008), “What strikes one most in the voluminous literature dedicated to the "extermination" of the Jews is the disparity existing between so grave an accusation and the fragility of the evidence furnished for its support”. The derivation of...

...Thesis Racial superiority has traditionally been an issue for various countries at one point or another in their history, but none worse than that displayed by the Nazis over the Jews and by the Tutsis over the Hutus in Rwanda. ‘There is no continent without ethnic conflict and no community where there is not distrust.’ says the Holocaust Memorial Resource and Education Center of Florida (undated) There are both similarities and differences between the events of the Holocaust and the Rwandan genocide which took place between April and June 1994. During this tragic period of 3 months some 800,000 Rwandans died. The majority of these were ethnically Tutsis murdered by their rival...

Holocaust Memorial Visit

...I. My like and dislike about the Memorial I like the idea that the Memorial was built to remember the suffering of the Jews during the Holocaust. Ina way, it is the Germans apology of their war crimes during the Second World War and an admission of its guilt. It is also unusual that a country would built a monument to remember its collective guilt becaue usually, countries only erect monument to honor its glory. I do not like the feel of the memorial. Its creepy especially when I am in between those two narrow cobbled stones. It also seems to look bland. II. The exclusivity of commemorating the Jewish victims For a race that was almost annihilated and made extinct by Hitler’s genocide, it is only proper that their suffering... be...

Building of the Holocaust Memorial

... this decision, and it is interesting to see how even the lead designer of a project like this does not necessarily have complete control over their project. “Building the Holocaust Memorial” is an interesting take on the construction of an important site in Germany. It shows that even a simple act of goodwill, like building a memorial to the victims of one of the most atrocious assaults on humanity in history can be fraught with political and ethical difficulties, and that nothing is as simple as it seems on the surface.... Building Germany's Holocaust Memorial

...Building Germany’s Holocaust Memorial Peter Eisenman’s memorial to victims of the Holocaust, located in Berlin, is composed of a series of concrete slabs of varying heights, placed in a grid pattern. The memorial has been the subject of a lot of debate, both from the Jewish citizenry and from German non-Jews as well. One of the reasons for this debate has been the fact that only Jewish people are included in this particular memorial. The commemorative structure makes no mention of the homosexuals, handicapped, or gypsies that were also murdered by the Nazis, not to mention those put to death for other reasons by the National Socialist Party. The problem with a memorial that deals exclusively with the remembrance of the Jews... the...
