Creating Anglo America Religious discrimination is one of the most disturbing issues facing many parts of the world. The interrelation among people globally on the basis of business, the desire for adventure and social aspects such as marriage has led to the spread of various forms of religion. Due to this, religion has been used as a ground for malicious people to fulfill their evil interests. Politicians use religions to separate people as well as gain masses. Terrorist also use religion as a protective guard to their actions.
Creating Anglo America is a document that digs into the history of religious persecution established by the last American colony in the seventeenth century. The document is a collection of chapters extracted from a book with the title ‘Creating Anglo America’. The chapters talks about the formation of the Pennsylvania in 1680 found by William Penn, a devoted affiliate of the Quakers as well as rebellions and oppressions caused by the English colonial leaders. (Thrope 7). The articles were written by a collection of writers whose articles were combined to make chapters of the book.
Their aim was for people understand the cases of religious conflict and contributions made by various forms of government in support of religious discrimination as well as the oppression caused by bad leadership. One of the writers is Francis N Thrope who talks about religious oppression and the poor system of colonial governance. In his manuscripts; he states that ‘the government had no rights to enforce any kind of religious worship’. He continues to say that Europe is eligible to have freedom conscience and worship.
His argument is based on the belief of the Quaker movement that God is omnipresent thus dwells in every human being. This belief provides all human beings with a right to worship in their own style without being questioned by the authority. According to Thrope, the bible and other religious writings together with the clergy were enough sources that could provide guidance to religion. The colonial government had formed their own set of rules that restricted the native from having their form of worship.
The colonies that adapted to the British form of worship were referred to as ‘free born colonies of England’ (Thrope 7). The religious assimilated groups were given a chance to have representatives in the colonial legislature. They were able to make their contribution to the formation of laws that governed the English colonies. Christian believers who were not converted to the English style of worship were oppressed and had to seek refuge to places where they could worship in peace. The Pennsylvania provided a safe environment for religious believers whole were undergoing persecution in Europe.
Another author who contributed to the writing of the article Creating Anglo-America was Nathaniel Bacon. He gives incidences of oppression from the colonial government that was accompanied by various forms of rebellions. The colonial government was formed by corrupt leaders whose ideas and actions were aimed at improving their own status. The author’s states that the country’s wealth lied in their hands thus they had the ability to do whatever they pleased to the people. He makes the readers build the picture of an oppressing colonial government and the impact it can have on the people.
He also describes the political tension in colonized states by giving examples of rebellions. ‘Creating Anglo America’ portrays a picture of a form of struggle from selfish governance and the practice of defending what is rightfully owned by a community or an individual. The Bacon’s rebellion was the greatest rebellion in the history of all English colonies. Bacon uses this incident as an example in order to explain the political turmoil that was experienced during the English colony. Bacon’s rebellion was as a result of the colonial government’s interest to give land to foreigners who offered certain amount of wealth and trade to the colonial government (Bacon 55).
The colonial government in this case gave Indians plots of land so that they can establish their plantations and formed rules that hindered the Native Americans from visiting these areas. The result of this was a build up rebellion that aimed at fighting to regain the lost land and freedom in the Native American’s homeland. The Native Americans also fought opposing the high taxes imposed on small scale farmers. The rebellion eventually came to an end after all the issues were resolved. Taxes were reduced and the Native Americans given the freedom to walk freely on their land as well as to own property wherever they wanted.
Conclusion The ‘Creating Anglo America’ is an article that narrates the history of the English colonial government. The history provides a lot of teaching about leadership that is motivated by personal interests and the negative outcomes that it brings to the society. It discourages the endorsement of any form of oppression while encouraging the practice of freedom in all nations globally. Work cited Thrope N F.
