Historically, the name Holborn is derived from the name of a brook/River Fleet system in London. I searched for the history of Holborn and came to know that it was a locally governed region within the metropolitan area of London. In the year 1900, this system of local governance was abolished and Holborn became one of the 28 metropolitan boroughs. One can see that rapid development and urbanization transformed Holborn from a locally governing region to the integral part of Central London. But now, more and more buildings connected to the history of Holborn are converted into offices and hotels.
For example, the Pearl Assurance Building, with is symbolic of neoclassical architecture, underwent renovation and was converted to a hotel (say, in the year 1999). Then, I visited some popular buildings in and around Holborn like Staple Inn (the office of Institute of Actuaries), Holborn Bars, Grange Holborn Hotel, and Gray's Inn. The visit to the buildings was a stunning experience to me because almost all these buildings carry traditional and modern features of Holborn. South Kensington My second field trip was to South Kensington, which is London.
As a build-up area near to Charing Cross, South Kensington consists of a number of gardens and streets. First, I visited the tube station, an important part of the underground rail system in London. One can easily identify that this underground rail system is most helpful to reduce heavy traffic in the area. Earlier, South Kensington acted the role of an agricultural area which provided agricultural products like fruits and vegetables. The Great Exhibition conducted in this area in the year 1851 transformed South Kensington from an agricultural area to a developed area attached to the suburbs of London.
To be specific, those who conducted the Great Exhibition purchased the area and developed into a cultural and educational hub. For instance, so many museums, cultural institutions and educational institutions were constructed in South Kensington. The newly constructed railway lines and roads connect South Kensington to the other areas like Westminster and the City of London. I decided to visit some of the buildings in and around South Kensington. First, I visited the Natural History Museum. This visit was a stunning experience because this museum consists of a number of specimens related to earth science.
Then I visited Victoria and Albert Museum which consists of a number of departments which display thousands of art works from different parts of the world. Then, I visited Imperial College London, which is an important educational institution in South Kensington, London. Some of the other important buildings in South Kensington include: the Royal Albert Hall and the Science Museum. Barbican Centre My third and final field trip was to Barbican Centre, which is situated in the City of London. Barbican Centre is under the direct control of the City of London Corporation.
The Barbican Centre consists of a number of sections like library, theatre, restaurants and Concert hall. Besides, Barbican Centre promotes arts in Europe. For example, ample importance is given to different art forms like music and theatre. This building was designed by Chamberlin, Powell and Bon, an important architectural firm in England. One can see that this building is interconnected with the development of different art for
