Most notable is the fact that even the portions of the clergy have been affected, something that throws into disarray the whole hope for a religious interpretation of the case at hand. This is not to imply that the whole religious system is rotten or has become a victim of gay marriages, but rather to insinuate that the church may be partisan when it comes to addressing gay marriages issues in its totality. Save for Christianity, most of the current global religious groups, for instance Islam, Judaism and Budhism strictly apply their religious disapproval towards same sex marriages.

Even on the side of Christianity, it does not suffice it to say that everyone speaks with a common voice on deliberation of matters to do with same sex marriages. So then, what is the best way forward? Should the American citizenry sit back in the hope that a solution will come or fold hands in the comfort that whatever affects the public in minute proportions is not worth attention? I doubt that. It therefore calls for one to try to understand the whole scenario in terms of the motivating factors for all the possible solutions proposed and the reason why some states have legalized same sex marriages.

Recent Case Studies on Gay Marriages Evidence suggest that the issue of gay marriages must have been sporadic after the year 2004 when Massachusetts, Vermont, Connecticut, Maine, Iowa made it legal. It is noted that New Hampshire joined the growing list of gay-legal states. It has also been noticed that some states have given gay couples all the legal rights that other heterosexual partners enjoy, among them being tax breaks and inheritance without a will. Some of these states include Oregon in 2007, Washington State in 2009, Nevada in 2009, Maine in 2004, and California in 1999.

However, these benefits vary slightly from state to state. Public Opinion about Gay Marriages Strange as it may seem, public opinion about same-sex marriages has also remained divided in the eyes of the public. While the numbers of same sex marriages continue to be on the increase, a survey carried out by Pew Research Centre for the People and Press suggest that only 49% of Americans oppose gay marriages while 38% gladly approve of it. The study also found out that there has been a softening attitude developed by the masses over gay marriages issue.

Most of these arguments in support of same-sex marriages have been backed up by the fact that other global states have been softening their stand on the issue. For example, it has been noted that countries such as Netherlands, Belgium, the Canadian provinces of Ontario and British Columbia, Quebec Canada, Spain and other regions of Canada had legalized same-sex marriages between the year 2001 and 2005. Political Forces behind Gay Marriages As a matter of fact, gay marriages cannot be sufficiently discussed without the political element as a force that also propels the practice.

It should be appreciated that up to now it is very hard to demonize the practice while political class approach it differently for their own political ambitions. To say nothing of the military would water down the whole assessment on issues concerned with gay rights as has been recent cases. The first compromise in US Military
