The author also threw light upon the relation of Scotland with England and other countries of the world. The book could be viewed as a concisely compiled account of information about the key events and political progressions within the Scottish history. The main thesis of the book is to provide an overview of the history of Scotland as a nation and to illustrate its position in dealing with the present day world affairs. The book includes both past and present of Scotland nation and also predicts about its future by looking at the answers of some key questions related with the relationship of Scotland with the Britain and other countries.
The predictions about the Scottish future position have been made by looking at the evidences of various historical trends. The book has been written keeping in mind the main changes occurred within the political history of the country. It talks about the devolution referendum of 1997 that provoked the waves of concerns and interest across the Britain. The book is very informative and the people even having no idea about the Scotland history could learn a lot from this book about the Scottish history and its place in the world. . The book consists of less than 200 pages that does not seem enough to capture the history of a nation along with its present situation and future predictions.
Hence, the author has made the selections regarding the inclusion of the key historical events that really seem important to him. The book has been organized in five major parts following the introduction after which the author has included the notes, biography and chronology of the main events. The first three sections are mainly focused upon the early history of Scotland, the forth section has been devoted to the Scottish national party whereas the last section talks about the present issues and future forecasts about the Scotland nation and its relationship with the wider world.
The author talks about the Scottish nationhood in 1707 that is mostly the description of the historical events with little focus upon the building of Scottish nationality over time. He also explores Scottish national party in detail and explores its growth and development over the year not only from the political perspective but also from the people’s perspective and discusses how the people of Scotland experience the evolution of patriotic feelings and engagement within the union. At some places, the book simply appears to be the description of the historical events where the main question of the book is not clearly answered.
The main point that the author himself mentioned to be answer in the book is the description and explanation of Scotland nationality building however, some parts of the book seem simply the description of this events rather linking them towards the building of the Scottish nationality.
