Student’s name) (Course code+name) (Professor’s name) (University name) 1. Description of the results Population and hospital based statistics continue to show that breast cancer has the highest crude frequency tendencies or rates among the Saudi women. Of particular interest is the result of case control study about female breast cancer in eastern region of Saudi Arabia. This case recorded a total of 225 female breast cancer cases in the King Fahad Specialist Hospital - Eastern Region- Dammam. To begin with, the case provided an opportunity to retrospectively review the data obtained. By averaging the ages of women with breast cancer in the Hospital, there was 48.6 (95% CI, 46.9-50.3) with minimum age worked with standing at 23 and the maximum being 94. Basing on the median age which was found to be 48 there is an indication that the cases recorded were of women predominantly pre-menopausals. Further proof of this is the data obtained regarding average age at menopause standing at 50.3 (95% CI, 49.8 – 50.7) which is slightly higher than the age recorded (48.6). The case worked with average weight of 75.2 (95% CI, 73.1-77.3) with minimum and maximum ages being 43 and 112 respectively. Another interesting aspect about the case is the multivariate analyses that can help explain independent variables regarding the disease. The point of significance in this case is the age at marriage. By average, age at marriage was 17.4 (95% CI, 16.9 – 17.9) with lowest and highest ages recorded standing at 12 and 32 respectively. This is conceptualized by age at menarche Standard Deviation recorded (1.7) and its average mean age 11.7 (95% CI, 11.5 – 11.9). The average age at menarche and in fact minimum age at menarche standing at 9 underscores mean number of children recorded; 5 (95% CI, 4.8 – 5.4). Further proof to this is the first age at pregnancy which is recorded at 20 (95% CI, 19.6 – 20.6) with statistical assumption that at least by the age of 14 there is a woman in the region getting pregnant. Research by American Cancer Society (2012) has indicated that there is strong relationship between body mass index and female breast cancer in Eastern region. For instance, there were ≥30 cases of obesity with the number standing at 122 (54.2 %). This statistics can help explain why there were highest cases of breast cancer among women with body weight above 73 (95% CI, 73.1 – 77.3). Still on the categorical variables, marital status has an effect on the epidemiology of the disease in the region. Referring to the data, the highest cases reported was from married women with the frequency of 208 out of the sample 225 (92.4%). This data can be related with the education level. The data shows that non-educated have 35.1% chance of contracting the disease meaning that since less educated women are unlikely to make sober decision regarding the best age to marry, the highest frequency of married women in the region standing at 208 is justified. Still a point of concern that draws mixed statistics across the study is the occupation and tendency to be suffering from the cancer. The data shows that at least there are 200 cases of breast cancer with housewives (88.9%) and merely 25 (11.1%) with other professionals. The consequence of this is presented by National Cancer Institute (2012) arguing that women who are less engaged in activity are likely to have bigger mass index---a variable further confirmed that overweight women (25 – 29.9) have 29.8 % chance of contracting the cancer while when obese (≥30) there chance is even higher (54.2%). However, this trend does not support extent stage at which the cancer is manifested in the breast. The data shows that there were 8 (3.6%) in situ (in place) cases with that progressing to 21.3% cases of women having the disease localized. Other information provided by the case is regional by direct extent standing at 4.0% as a result of 9 cases identified, distant system disease or metastasis standing at 21.3% same case as those localized. The highest recorded extent stage as per this case is the regional by lymph node which stood at 38.7% with 87 women representing the data. The data presentation also indicates that age is a factor to consider when dealing with cases of breast cancer in the region. In this case, the chances of women aged ≥ 50 getting the disease is standing at 43.6%. That is, 98 of the 225 interviewed had a chance of 43.6%. This finding conforms to research that age contributes significantly to the cases of breast cancer (Al-Rikabi and Husain 2012). This is also conceptualized through the data representing age group at menopause. Women at Read More
