The paper “Health Study of Centenarians and Children of Centenarians" is a wonderful example of an annotated bibliography on health sciences & medicine. "The role of exercise capacity in the health and longevity of centenarians" written by Venturelli, Massimo, Schena, Federico and Richardson, Russell is one of the studies regarding this discourse. The article discusses how the people who are living more than 100 years in this age and era and living a better and healthier life than those in the recent past who was dying a bit earlier and having been affected more health-wise.

According to the article, even though the centenarians have physical health problems and especially as a result of the collapsed lung and other infections they are prone to due to their reduced immunity levels. In this article, however, the secret of living longer for the centenarians are physical exercises that are frequent and constant. The physical exercises allow them to increase their oxygen intake which assists with the lung problems that are likely to collapse due to lack of oxygen. As a result of the exercises which they carry out with trainers or with other groups of old people, they are able to surpass the ages where the older people in the past were unable to do so.

Some of the professionals are able to live longer because their work demands a lot of physical energy which is enough for their health.Kaufman, Laura, et al. An Oral Health Study of Centenarians and Children of Centenarians. Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, June 2014, 62(6): 1168-1173.This article focuses on the oral health of the centenarians in comparison with that of the younger generation. The studies were conducted on centenarians in New England and observational cross-sectional study was the methodology used.

The participants who were in this research study were 73 centenarians and 467 offsprings who were young children. What the researchers were examining in the study population was the medical history of the people under research as well as the socio-demographic characteristics of these groups of people. They wanted to determine the difference between the oral health of the centenarians and that of the younger population and the causes of the differences. The research results indicated that by the time the younger generation reached the age of the centenarians, they would have half the number of teeth the current group of centenarians was having from this research.

The difference was associated with the lifestyle being led by the centenarians and which they had been leading and that which is being explored by the current young generation. The centenarians were strict about their oral health and they avoided sugary things even though the number of sugary confectionary in this age and era is way more than it was in the past.Caruso, Calogero, et al. “Positive biology”: the centenarian lesson. Immunity and Ageing,    2012, 9(5).The article discusses what effects positive biology has had on the centenarians.

The researchers focused their research in Japan and they measured 30-year research on the group and their lifestyle. They made several conclusions the first being the fact that there were a few individuals that had good genes which enables them and their offsprings and previous generation live longer. The other conclusion was that these individuals ate very healthy food which was high in nutrition. They avoided processed as well as food exposed in flame for long as well as acidic food. The healthy Japanese food they ate enabled them to maintain good health with few occurrences of health problems.

They also avoided leading poor lifestyle without exercises. They controlled their social life in such a way that it did not interfere with their health as is common these days. Avoidance of stress and well as ensuring they keep stressors to a minimal in their environment also contributed greatly to their longevity. A combination of the above-mentioned factors led to the building of their immunity and hence eliminating the majority of the diseases which are killing people in their 70s and 80s.

Kim, Hyunjee, Lee, Taeyong and Lee Sokgoo. Factors Associated with Adl and Iadl    Dependency among Korean Centenarians: Reaching the 100-Year-Old Life Transition.         International Journal of Ageing and Human Development, April 2012, 74(3): 243-264.This article focuses on the activities of daily living and the instruments of daily living activities that the Korean centenarians subject themselves to in order to live that long. It is research focusing on 796 individuals who are over 100 years old.

The main aspects being examined include their health behaviours, presence of diseases, social connectedness as well as socio-demographic factors. The research results indicated that the activities and instruments these centenarians engaged in on a daily living were the cause for their long life. They engaged in physical activities which enabled them to avoid a lot of diseases, ate the correct meals and participated a lot in social activities which ensured that they avoided stresses and dealt with them through social interactions.

By engaging in the activities mentioned above, they were able to beat chronic diseases as well as foster social participation which cannot be said for the younger generation. The aim of this information is to promote the same for the younger generations whose social lifestyle and poor eating habits without exercises is curtailing their lives.
