Nutrition and Diseases Discussing nutrients among food is an important aspect as it helps in understanding the best means through which to take care of the body from a health perspective. Foods are substances that people consume to thrive as they contain minerals that assist in ensuring the body system remains strong and healthy. Nutrients are contained in foods and the ones that are responsible for ensuring that the organs run effectively. Nutrients are important in that they the ones that add to the already existing strength in the body. Noting that the nutrients are responsible for the prevention of diseases is another factor to consider. One of the common disorders regarding this is food bourne illness. The other term commonly used to refer to this food poising. The food poising is any symptoms or rather sickness that may come from the ingestion of contaminated food commodities. Many creatures contaminate food and an example of these is parasites and viruses. Nutrient related diseases are the ones that appear in a person’s system when the individual has not taken or rather is not used to taking commodities with enough nutrients in them. As stated, nutrients are important for they ensure the body adds strength to the body. Lack of these nutrients has the consequent effect of having the body losing a substantial amount of energy. Without this energy, the result is having the body weak to a point where pathogens and viruses attack the weak body carrying with them these nutrient related diseases. Safe food is important for it ensures that the body is always strength to enable the person to carry out practices effectively. Without safe food, people would often get ill for most of the other food commodities they would be consuming will be very vulnerable to pathogens. Taking commodities that are washed is vital for it ensures that the food is clean from parasites and viruses that may present themselves in the food. Another type of food is boiled food. Boiling is important for with the increase in temperature, the pathogens present in the food automatically die. With this information regarding safe food, there is the factor that people would rarely get sick but rather would live healthy lives. Contaminants on the other hand do not have any benefits to the human body. The reason for this is that they act opposite of what the body needs to happen. The body ought to have strength all the time and this is from the different activities that people carry out. When these contaminants get into the body, they make the various protectors such as white blood cells weak and thus the person becomes sick which is obviously a negative factor. This is the same for food additives and pathogens as they are of no benefit to the body. There are different types of microbes that cause food bourne illnesses. An example of these is Campylobacter jejuni commonly found in animals and birds and especially in their intestinal tracts (Bjourkland 36). The other is Clostridium botulinum that is distributed naturally. Another example is Clostridium perfringens that is common for being distributed in areas with little or no oxygen. When food bourne illnesses occur to a person, various symptoms may show depending on the particular illness. However, all these illnesses are almost similar in nature with regard to initial symptoms. One of the common of these is the fact that the person finds it difficult to breath. When the person ingests the pathogen through either a particular food or drink, they either see these problems immediately or later have problems breathing (Bjourkland 58). These people also shake and get unstable in their quest for breath and the most common result of these is falling down. Another effect for the people that do not get an immediate effect is that during the times prior to their reaction, they get to vomit and diarrhea a lot. In the less serious cases, there is the effect of having fever and chills. These cases are less serious and thus they do not receive a lot of doctor’s attention if any at all. These illnesses can be prevented through various ways and one of these is ensuring that when going shopping, people ought to survey the ingredients contained in the commodity and thus understand when the food is due. Moreover, for people with particular allergies, it helps in ensuring that they do not shop for commodities with them (Bjourkland 97). Storage of these commodities is imperative for it ensures that they do not consume food that is tampered with. In addition, the preparation of these commodities is vital and this is mainly an advice for the restaurants. There are people that use both the contemporary and tradition methods of food preservation. Among the traditional methods of preservation of food is through drying. This method was important for it ensures that all the moisture contained in the food is eliminated such that bacteria cannot survive there. Another method of preserving food was through smoking. The smoke would effectively cover the food and thus bacteria would get killed while also being kept away from the food. Canning is another method that involved the commodity being stored in tightly sealed cans to a point that it would get impossible for any form of bacteria penetrating. Subterranean Burial is another traditional means of storing food. It is important for it ensures the bacteria do not survive in areas with less oxygen and would not reach the food commodity. When referring to modern methods of food preservation, noting that refrigeration is one of the most common means is very effective. Through this method, the air around the food commodity decreases to a point that no known pathogen can survive. This method is similar to freezing which also uses the same concept in ensuring that the temperatures get so reduced that the creatures cannot survive in such. Another common method of food preservation is one that was used in earlier days and still is and this is the canning method. The science behind this method is similar despite the time used. Vacuum packing is another method where the commodities are stored in a vacuum that means the pathogens cannot survive due to energy lack. Food agencies have vast roles in ensuring that food borne illnesses do not take place. A major means through which they ought to do this is by carrying out tests on the products prior to their release to the public and through these people are assured of appropriate health. Hazard analysis and critical control points. These have the role of covering Fresh-Cut Produce and Drinks mostly. The Center for Disease Control has the role of ensuring that the provided food is safe by carrying out some Biological tests on the commodities to ensure that people are protected from these foods (Bjourkland 106). The organization also has the role of taking care of infected commodities in large quantities where they are supposed to quarantine people. However, this is in massive areas of affection. With regard to Nutrition labeling, all organizations that are involved with food bourne illnesses either directly or indirectly state that it imperative for companies with the manufacturing of sealed food state the expiry and production date of the commodity and this ought to be visible to anyone seeking to purchase the commodity. Moreover, the manufactures also ensure that they describe the ingredients. The food act is another act stated by the Center for Disease control (Stump 74). It states that in the case of an emergency that requires evacuation, the children receive priority. Moreover, school administration ought to pass the food through the rules held by the various agencies and register reports on it. The other type of diseases to engage in understanding is the nutrient related diseases. As earlier defined, these are types of illnesses that basically come from the lack of certain important nutrients in the body. Going through these diseases is important for it helps in the understanding of the problems that may arise when someone falls ill. One of the most common diseases with regard to this is Kwashiorkor. This is a disease that has hit very many places and especially in the remote areas of Africa that go many days without food. This diseases gets to these people because most of them do not time to figure out the nutrients that may be contained in the particular food that they take. Chronic fatigue Syndrome is one of the diseases that may come from lack of adequate nutrients in the body system. This disease gets to the body when a person goes for many days without taking any nutritious foods. The disease involves the person feeling tired all the time and the reason for this is the fact that the bones do not have enough calcium to have them strong enough to work or perform any activity (Stump 97). If these people are given adequate amount of calcium, preferably, milk may have these people regaining their strength and from here, they can have enough energy to carry out other activities. Many effects either may arise from the excessive consumption or reduced consumption of various nutrients. The first nutrient to review is carbohydrates. With a high consumption of carbohydrates, there is the risk of an increased amount of calories in the body. With these calories, the person is bound to gain weight in a very fast manner and the person may even become obese. Many fat people have many health problems as compared to lighter people and thus it is appropriate to state that carbohydrates are an indirect path to more health problems. Another problem that may come from a high consumption of these nutrients is having the particular individual may lead to a larger breakdown of food. After this breakdown, the person may get other complications such as diabetes due to uncontrolled blood levels. In other conditions, the person may have gastrointestinal problems and the excessive fats that become gas and affect the stomach cause this. In addition, it is important to note that with high amounts of fat, there is an increased chance of getting cardiovascular disease. There are also very many negative effects of low carbohydrates levels in the body. One of the most common of this is the constant urination and this comes from low levels of fat in the body. Another effect is that the person may feel tired and fatigued often, the reason is the fact that people that do not take carbohydrates lose many minerals, and when they do that, they tend to lose a lot of energy. Constipation is another factor to consider with relation to low levels of carbohydrates and this is due to lack of minerals (Mellen). Proteins are other factors to consider and a negative effect of taking food with them in excess is that they may lead to a condition known as Osteoporosis. This health problem comes when the particular individual gaining a lot of weight on the bones and the fibers (Mellen). This may lead to the person getting tired easily after carrying out small activities. High protein levels are also known to affect the kidney seriously and may even hinder its functioning. In some cases, it may even lead to cancer. Low levels of proteins also have their associated repercussions. One of the negative effects of taking low amounts of protein is that the muscle tissue gets frail. After getting frail, the body cannot carry out activities because it ought to and after this, the person feels weak after carrying out any particular activity. Another major effect is the fact that the body tissue becomes weak to a point that it becomes rather impossible for the person to coordinate. Regarding the immune function, it is rather difficult for the person to maintain a healthy system and the reason is that the proteins are the ones that comprise the major part of the blood cells among other components that keep the body protected from bacteria and viruses (Stump 138). Bone health is another factor where lack of enough amounts of these may lead to low muscle weight. It is also important to note that there are cases where the patients with this protein levels may lack concentration. Identifying the fact that diabetes is a massive killer is an important factor to know when dealing with the disease. This information helps when understanding the prevalence of the disease in the United Arab Emirates. According to recent statistics, the number of people with Diabetes in the region is about 300, 000 people (Johnson, Bernstein, Melissa, & Don 65). The entire world has a much larger amount of people suffering from the disease and it is imperative for people to understand the importance of taking precaution against the disease. It is the responsibility of different organizations alongside with individual ambassadors to take it upon themselves to visit the areas with the highest number of people with this disease. Cancer is another disease that has killed many people over the past years. The disease has received acclamation for being the one with the most killings not only in the United Arab Emirates but also in the entire world. Having people learn appropriate practices is imperative for it ensures that the number of deaths from these deseases reduces significantly and consequently there is the ability of people to live even longer lives. Many different steps that individuals can take to ensure that they do not become victims of the diseases mentioned can be taken. One of the best manners through which this can be done is through ensuring that the people that they stay around practice appropriate eating practices. It is a well known factor that when a person spends time with inappropriate eating practices he or she may get tempted and give in to taking the unsafe foods. Thus, it is important to understand that self-control is key in such situations if at all there is no way-avoiding people that practice inappropriate eating practices. The other method that a person can use to prevent the occurrence of the diseases is by ensuring that he or she has a professional nutritionist who can offer quality help on the best feeding practices. Moreover, these nutritionists can assist in if the person books a weekly appointment where they can get tested for some of the common diseases. As a family, they can set rules and motivate each other on not eating the commodities and as a community, creating awareness is imperative. Food bourne diseases and nutrient related illnesses are some of the most common illnesses in the contemporary world. In earlier days, these diseases were rarely found and the reason is that the various chemicals around currently did not exist in those days. The various chemicals have come up in the contemporary world and the reasons why there are so many problems. It is important for people to take protective measures by ensuring that they read the instructions and ingredient list prior to the purchasing of particular commodities. Having this as a trend for people in different places would lead to a huge decrease in the number of health cases brought about by the diseases. Works Cited Bjourkland, Ruth. Food Bourne Illnesses.
