The exercise group exhibited a sharper decrease after 30 to 60 minutes from intake while the non-exercise group exhibited a slower decrease in blood glucose levels after 30 to 60 minutes. This study concludes that exercise increases glucose metabolism causing it to be utilized faster by the body.

Exercise causes the body to utilize more energy. This energy would necessarily come from the body’s energy storage and largely from glucose and its derivatives. With higher energy demands during exercise, more energy is also utilized; consequently, more glucose is utilized. Various studies have been conducted on this interaction. This paper shall follow a similar pattern as set by former researches and will conduct an actual experiment that will specifically assess glucose levels with participants in this study performing exercises. This study is being undertaken in order to determine whether or not exercise really has an effect on glucose metabolism. Other studies have proposed that exercise will increase glucose metabolism or increase glucose uptake (Richter, et.al., 2001, p. 313). There is a need however to increase support for these studies and determine a more practical and evidence-based basis for this study. One study claims that exercise has a beneficial effect on glucose metabolism. The study set forth that exercise provokes the insulin-counter regulatory hormones like glucagons and catecholamines to reduce insulin action. And through continued physical activity, there is a reduced sensitivity to insulin and better regulation of fat metabolism (Sato, et.al., 2003, p. 1208).
