Topic: STAR WARD- PLAN TO PROVIDE THERAPUETIC ACTIVITIES TO THE PSYCHATRIC PATIENT. Insert Insert Insert Date: 1. OUTLINE AND AIM OF OUR PLAN: Our plan is basically designed to provide therapeutic activities to the patients of the star ward. In this way we can reduce their aggression level and uneasiness they feel at ward. Rich set of activities for the patients help them to recover soon as well as it helps the staff to handle the patients with comfort and safety. Our plan covers a set of activities introduced at the ward, the outline when and how which activity will be conducted and weekly analysis as which activity is creating positive impact on the patient and how the activities can be productive through shuffling. 2. PROBLEM: CAUSES AND NATURE: Basically the problem at the star ward is that patients who usually come are suffering from higher aggression and acutely unwell. The patients admitted to this ward are from prison and at times it is highly risky for staff to manage them because of their background and higher aggression. The reason behind behavior of such patients is the lack of therapeutic activities for them as well as their psychological disorder. This also leads to slow and timely improvement in their behavior and mental condition. We are designing a plan to start therapeutic activities in the ward. It not only help the staff to overcome the challenges faced by them while their treatment but also brings positive & healthy results on overall mental treatment of the patients. Our designed plan has several activities in the ward which can be implemented and monitored through staff and doctors and analyzed on weekly basis. FISH DIAGRAM TO ILLUSTRATE OUR BASIC PROBLEM 3. PROBLEM ANALYSIS & POSSIBLE SOLUTION: 3.1 ANAYLSIS OF THE PROBLEM: While critically reviewing the problem by recommended information and our detailed research models, including interviews and observations we analyzed that there is lack of any activities for the patients. As patients are from prisons and are suffering severe mental disorders, we observed that the aggression level is higher in them. Sometimes the staff has to face several risks while treating them. These makes staff job challenging and the recovery of such patients is slow and steady. We have interviewed the staff members and analyzed that at times the patients go out of control and refuse to have any treatment which discourage the moral of the staff. We are of the opinion that the patients have some therapeutic activities in their ward so that they can lower their aggression, takes interest in life, and surroundings and develop a constructive mental approach. The patients get sick of tired of the environment and the treatment. They need a change and some new activities which help them to recovery from such psychological disorders. 3.2. KEY FINDINGS: With thorough analysis of the problem, we find that the patients are sick and tired of the routine type of treatment. Patients are fed up from such environment and this creates a negative impact on overall treatment of the patients. The change in environment from prison to hospital does not create any positive impact on their mental growth. This also creates risks and problems for the concern staff. The medicines and other techniques are not creating a rapid effect on their recovery. As their background is from criminal activities plus they are giving the routine treatment. It all creates an environment which generates negative and subtle effects on their treatment. They don’t find any attraction in life, in environment and most of all in their recovery. 4. RESOLUTION OF THE PROBLEM: The resolution of this problem consists of providing a different environment to the patients with different sets of therapeutic activities so that they can recovery well with an improved rate and its lowers their aggression. The decision making process and implementation contains several factors. These could be a critical review of problem, solution, and expected benefits the management can gain from these activities. Furthermore the decision making process accomplish factor as what are the risks involved in all such activities. This brings quiet benefits for the patients as well as the staff. The therapeutic activities are healthy walk, prayers, life skills, staying well, talking therapies, vocational clinic relaxation, Medication education, Music appreciation, cooking, and news out, jewelry making, shopping art therapy and fitness therapy. Our designed plan has three options: I. RELIEF THERAPY: The first option we designed for the clients giving them a change environment with relief therapies. These therapies include medication, exercise and fitness, prayers and healthy walk. It helps them to have a change in their atmosphere, builds their stamina and brings helps them to realize their stress and tensions. Apart from medication, these overall therapies help them to recover rapidly from their disorders. II. RELIEF & LEARNING THERAPY: Apart from their mental relief therapy, the patients should be helped in learning some skills and techniques which help them in their future life. And that can be a source of income for them. These could be jewelry making, music learning, cooking etc. III. RELIEF, LEARNING & REALIZATION THERAPY: It is highly important for such patients to realize the importance of life and takes interest in life. Good will power helps the patient to recovery quickly then medicines. For this they have prayers regularly and then in this way they realize where they were wrong and how they make their life better. Learning and relief therapies are simultaneously carried on. In my opinion option three suits well to the hospital staff and to the patient while bring positive results on the health of the patients. The relief therapy as well as learning therapy brings positive results but here the task is not accomplished. The need is to make them realize the importance of life, and how they make their life productive for others. Furthermore the third option is feasible to be implemented as it gives a variety of activities from stress relieving to learning new skills and techniques; it offers a patient to choose which he is in mood of doing. It helps the patient to retain its interest in such kind of activities which brings fruitful results for the clients. Moreover it helps the staff to retain their interest in the job as it would bring not only learning experience for them But also brings the opportunity to enjoy their job. Nursing is the toughest job in the world. And if such job is redesigned, it brings fruitful results for the patients and management. In my opinion the third option will bring fruitful results for the management as well as for patients. 5. IMPLEMENTATION & COMMUNICATION OF SOLUTION: The implementation plan is very simple of our designed solution. All we need is to prepare a schedule and the work description to different staff members and then practically start the activities. Like first we have to divide the whole day into different sections and set up a routine of the patients. The day should be start with morning prayers and a healthy walk, or fitness exercises. Then after breakfast and medication the patient should take some rest. Before two hours of lunch patient should be given a choice to participate in different activities like cooking, jewellery making, music learning, gardening etc etc. This helps the patient to focus on different things and help him to learn from different activities. After lunch a patient should be taken rest and in the evening, patient should given a chance to go out of the ward with the concern staff and let him breathe and think in a different environment like in lawn, or veranda. After dinner the patients should be allowed to watch TV and programs which brings constructive knowledge for them. The staff should be given a job description explaining them their different duty hours and different activities the staff will be responsible to conduct with the patients. The division and clarification of job description among the staff help them to recognize their goals and duties. It facilitates a disciplinary work with efficiency. Moreover, a staff is deputed on observation of the patients, who are involved in different activities. They should critically observe different patients, their interest in different activities, which activity is highly popular among the patients and which activity brings positive results for the patient. Every patient has a different history, so different evaluation forms should be prepared and each patient should have individual evaluation form. The staff is required to fill those forms and submit to the management office. Whereas the doctors should review the forms of each patient along with his history and review what affects it is creating on the overall mental condition of the patient. What helps and what create problems. After a month analysis, the activities should be shuffle and new activities should be introduced among the patient. This not only helps the patient to retain their interest but open different visions for the patients to look for. This helps the patient to get relief from the mental stress and higher aggression, develop learning skills and self realization. 6. CONCLUSION: Basically star ward, is adopting a group of therapeutic activities so that it could brings healthy results on overall performance of the patients. The patients are suffering higher aggression and lack of interest in the surroundings and themselves. The result is slow and steady progress in their mental condition. The theme of our plan is to introduce therapeutic activities among the patients so that they takes interest in their lives and surroundings, learn from different activities, and this ultimately help them to recovery soon. These activities also help the staff to meet the challenges of the nursing as well as they enjoy their job as well. REFRENCES: Davis.
