FAST FOODS AND THEIR EFFECTS ON HEALTHY Insert Insert Introduction The regular consumption of fast food in the United s of America should be eliminated as the fast food diet leads to preventable and expensive health issues, such as diabetes, obesity, and heart disease. The fast foods have dominated the consumption of fast food by people mostly being children. This has resulted due to more advertising and marketing of these fast foods with the aim of the children and their parents. These fast foods have led to excessive weight gain, high density in energy, having a desire for fats and sugar which have low content in fiber. According to research by Tippett on diets the fast foods affects diet negatively as they lead to adverse effects that increase the risk for obesity (Tippett, 1998). Fast foods have led to negative health effects as the people have changed the eating habits from their traditional ways to the fast foods. The fast foods have a high content of calories due to amounts of cheese, fried meat, fats, and oil. These ingredients in the fast foods lead to unbalanced diet as they are more of proteins and vitamins instead of carbohydrates and fats for the daily meal consumption. This makes the fast foods unhealthy since it results in obesity and heart attack diseases such as cardiovascular. Research show that fast foods lead to damage of respiratory system and central nervous system as well as appetite and thus, its much consumption should be avoided to avoid more threats. The Massachusetts Medical Society Committee study on Nutrition more precise on the fast foods showed that there were high contents of fat. The studies showed that the fast foods led to body mass index increase and increase in weight gain. The fast foods also had a high content of saturated fats, which is a core factor that results in a heart attack. According to research done on monkeys in 2006, after the fast foods were fed on the monkeys, the monkeys fed the fast foods had more abdominal fats, as well as they, become more resistant to insulin as opposed to the others that fed on saturated fats which is an early sign of diabetes. This was due to the unsaturated fats in the fast foods hence there is a need to minimize the consumption of the fast foods and consumption of saturated fats. From Joshipura and US department of agriculture has pointed out that the fast foods have increased consumption of calories which is an increase from 3% to 12% of the overall calories taken in the USA. This has led to increasing the weight gain as well as increased the risk of diabetes in comparison to the ordinary foods (Joshipura, 2001). Tucker (1997) asserts that the effects of fast foods resulted in more intake of energy resulting to a positive energy balance thus increasing the chances of obesity. The consumption of the fast foods to both those at adolescent and the children in the United States has increased from 2% to 10% recently which is alarming as far as the health of those who use it are concerned. According to his article those at adolescent and children who ate the fast foods such as cheeseburgers, sugar-sweetened beverages and French fried potatoes consumed more sugars, less diet fibers, higher beverage energy density in comparison with those who did not eat the fast foods. This results in high fats and high energy density which results in the healthy issues such as obesity. Referencing from an article Pediatrics, and then this fast food among the children and the youth lead to a serious effect on diet quality in ways that could lead to high risk for obesity in the United States (Tucker, 1997). Fast food study published in the Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine journal published by the American Medical Association showed that the children who ate the fast foods consumed fewer nutrients and more calories. As opposed to the normal food, the fast foods had additional 309 calories to the children and 126 calories to adolescents. This junk food was also found to clog arteries if they were consumed for a long time, but recent studies show that the results result in the same day. Canadian journal emphasizing on cardiology shows that this fast food start leading to clogging of arteries the day the junk food is taken (Ludwig, 1999).This is a healthy risk as it can result in heart attack which is a deadly disease. The junk food leads to negative effects also to child study habits as the high contents of sugar depletes the levels of energy reducing the child’s ability to concentrate. Taking of chocolate or sweets by a child during break time rather than a fruit or sandwich makes the child feel hungry in less than an hour resulting in disruption of concentration in the class and his or her overall performance. This is evident as per the European public health journal the results of fast foods and resulting mathematics and reading test scores showed that those who took fast food four to six times within a week performed significantly lower than those who did not. If children eat vegetables, water fish, nuts and healthy fats could have positive moods and positive energy, which could result to better functioning of the brain as opposed to the fast foods, which lacked the nutritional requirements thus increasing depression risk (Pediatrics, 2014). Some of the restaurants also in the United States have also felt the negative effects of the Junk foods and are trying their best to ensure they serve their customers with nutritious foods. Basing our argument at Tim West who trained at Culinary Institute of America opened Cool Beans restaurant at California. He serves bean based meals and vegetables after having been selling Junk foods. He said that he did this to provide people with foods that were good for them and for the planet earth. Conclusion It is the time for those offering the Junk foods and the restaurants to turn to the organic and non-GMO clean foods as the fast foods are unhealthy to the body and leads to above discussed effects. To enhance and achieve optimal mental and physical health then eating the healthier foods is simply the way to go. References 1. Joshipura KJ. (2001).
