 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act: Obamacare The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act that is known as Obamacare is very beneficial in the United States. Obamacare, even though at times can be exclusive, can help many Americans receive health benefits. Obamacare was created to help benefit people who cannot afford health insurance, or cannot receive it because of previous health conditions. The insurance companies deny a vast majority of people who have had previous conditions because they are more prone to their disease reccurring, which will be costly. Insurance companies also insure a small percentage of these people because they are willing to pay a higher premium for their health care. On the other hand, not everyone in America can afford to pay a higher premium which leaves the less fortunate without health care. In 2014, Obamacare has forced many insurance companies to accept these people that cannot pay for health care regardless if they are an adult or child. Controversially, insurance companies will have to increase the premiums of people that can afford the health insurance to supply it to others that cannot. Obamacare is beneficial law to all American citizens and it helps all people in our nation. Obamacare is beneficial to a variety of Americans, not only the poor, as it provides the whole nation with health care. Generally, it is the less fortunate that would need the health insurance, but nonetheless wealthy Americans also need to be insured as of 2014; if they aren’t, then they will pay a tax penalty. Many Americans do not realize that they have been enjoying the benefits of the Affordable Care Act since 2010. Health insurance has increased in price, but this has afforded Americans with better quality of health insurance (“Benefits Of ObamaCare: Advantage of ObamaCare”). In addition, wealthy Americans do not realize that without this act, many sick children cannot be cured because they won’t be accepted under any policies. Also, children with previous conditions will be denied. Nevertheless, not even adults who have been diagnosed with diseases will be accepted. Obamacare helps protect Americans because regardless if they are diagnosed with a condition after receiving health insurance; insurance companies cannot cancel their plans as they usually have done. Obamacare has also banned insurance companies for setting a medical lifetime limit of 2 million dollars. Furthermore, to help low income families, Obamacare has lowered the cost of prescription medicine and also gives a premium fee based on a person’s income (“Benefits Of ObamaCare: Advantage of ObamaCare”). However, antagonists of Affordable Care Act believe it should be removed completely or amended. Insurance companies believe Obamacare should not have been passed because this leads to insurance companies spending more money to help everyone equally regardless on their monthly premium. Insurance companies believe that this will lead to lower quality in health care because there will be an overcrowding at ER rooms, an increase in doctor refusing patients, and a strain on medical providers. In addition, the insurance companies will have to raise premiums of the Americans that can afford health insurance. In 2011, the premium rose by 12.4% resulting in an additional $486 for wealthy Americans to pay. Furthermore, Obamacare leads to a $570 Billion tax hike and will add up to $500B in national debt (The Case Against Obamacare). In polls, 59% of Americans believe the law should be improved (Klein). These antagonists believe that all fifty states have had issues with the insufficiencies of Obamacare (Klein). President Obama’s administration would like to make Obamacare a nation policy, but it is impossible considering the cost of living in each state is different. On the contrary, Obama can make an effort to reinforce his act by mending it and giving different plans to all states. Joe Klein of Time magazine says, “…a wider variety of insurance options, including plans with lower premiums and higher deductibles” (Klein). Klein believes that not everyone should pay an equal price in premiums. In fact, he says, “There should be fewer mandated coverages; if the Jones family believes it receives all the mental-health counseling it needs through its church, it shouldn’t be required to pay for mental-health coverage.” (Klein) Nevertheless, Obamacare is one ultimately beneficial law to have been created by President Barrack Obama. Obama helped millions of less fortunate families become insured and have health benefits. It is irrelevant if the wealthy have to pay more money because in return they could be saving the life humans. Many people seek to protect their views, but if there was a time for them to see their family sick and unable to receive treatment because a millionaire can’t pay an extra $486, they also would be furious. Furthermore, it’s not as if $486 were free even for the less fortunate Americans. They have to pay a minimum that they can afford; it corresponds to their yearly wages. It is not understood how $486 could make a person richer, but is $486 worth the life of a human being? This is the greed wealthy Americans have if they believe a human life can have a dollar value. Regardless of the all the disadvantages it provides such as the making the insurance company with less money, making doctors have less money, and making all people that can afford health insurance pay more for it. It would never equal exchange for the life of a loved one, ever. After all is said and done, Obamacare will remain as a part of American society for many years; it is now a law that was passed in 2010 that many Americans did not even know. This law has its pros and cons like many other laws, but it has more benefits rather than disadvantages for all Americans. It helps take the greedy wealthy Americans and forces them to pay for a majority of the less fortunate health care. The money the wealthy will save will never be a large amount, regardless of how many years they save for. Many wealthy Americans have stopped thinking about their priorities, and they are not in the shoes of the less fortunate, but if one day the tables would turn, they too would expect someone more fortunate to give them a helping hand.
