Both power and authority are allocated at all levels in a way that each individual unit is assigned a given sphere of both power and authority within its capacity whereas other powers and authorities must be shared.

The governance of the United States occurs at several levels and governmental branches. All these branches participate in the process of decision-making. At the top is the Supreme Court and at the bottom is the local government, the way in which power is distributed makes it possible for all the entities of the entire system to work independently at the same time functioning together as a nation. The federal government’s legislative powers are properly outlined in the constitution.

Federalism is important in that it gives powers to the individuals of a given state to set policies that are favorable to them in relation to their unique needs. Despite the differences that exist in terms of policies made by one state from those of the other, all these states still conglomerate as one nation. This way of governance helps in avoiding excessive power concentrating in the hands of the central government since this may eventually lead to despotism. While coming up with health regulations as Robert (2007) puts it, legislators need to consider fairness, quality, affordability, efficiency and the accessibility the health services.
