Personal ment My long time objective is to be at the top in the field of medicine. I am confident that by joining the University of Washington, Seattle where I intend to pursue a degree in Medical Laboratory Science, this will be a dream come true. With the enthusiasm I have on this field especially in the laboratory field where I have being a phlebotomist for a considerable period of time I believe I can make. In this regard, I have to ensure that I utilize every distinct opportunity that is presented in this University especially now that this course is one of the competitive majors that the University offers (Snedden 6) I was the last born in the family of four children raised in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia by a single mother and an absentee father.
Heavy financial burdens engulfed our family to an extent of my older siblings abandoning their education to help my mother provide basic necessities for the family. Luckily my passion for education and being the youngest in the family gave enough reasons for me to be in school even when financial situations were so open for me to quit. From then onwards, I rededicated myself to education with a new determination. It is at the middle school where my love for science began, with particular interest in science and technology (Snedden 35).
After attending high school for two years in Ethiopia, amidst financial problems, I got a chance to fly to United States of America. Never the less, life was not as dreamy as I had imagined. There was extreme difficulty, both in financial and cultural matters especially in learning the new language –English. With this limitation, I often felt lost in school and society. However, this situations urged me to improve my English skills and excel in whatever challenges life had to offer. My enthusiastic venue into the field of medicine re-emerged when I moved to Seattle.
I applied to EDCAP (Edmonds Career Access Program), providing a high school completion while preparing students for career at the Edmonds Community College (Snedden 9). Shortly after, I began both my high school completion program and a certificate in Clinical Laboratory Assistance and completed both programs successfully a year later. Consequently, I was hired as a Lab Assistant at Northwest Hospital Laboratory at about the same time I completed the programs (Snedden 21).My experience in the field of medicine includes drawing blood and preparing specimens for test.
The first encounter was with man-made machines, which gave me a new understanding of the human’s place in this technology. In fact, this elated at the fact that I too could be one of the gurus in this technology. Moreover, working in this position for at least four years has given me a full understanding of the role of laboratory in the patient care (Snedden 43). Pertaining to this, I strongly believe that this institution will act as a foundation to my future success. It has highly respected faculty and facilities, and a vast reputation in encouraging the development of individual potential in each student.
Once admitted I believe that I will be able to make a unique contribution to the institution, the country and relieve my family the financial burden that has continuously engulfed them.Thank you for your time and favorable consideration of my application for admission.
