Psychology and Function Psychology and Function ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate) Biologists consider adenosine triphosphate (ATP) as a high energy molecule that is the energy currency of life, which stores energy needed for all the body functions of a living organism. Physiological mechanisms use stored ATP like batteries that aids to provide energy. Oxidation of glucose operates to provide energy conversion of adenosine diphosphate to adenosine triphosphate during metabolism (“Adenosine Triphosphate,” n.d.).

Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR)The basal metabolic rate (BMR) is the number of calories burned by the body at rest to maintain normal body functions (Faires, 2011). Thermoregulation effects of feeding influence the BMR, which is the amount of calories needed for absorption, transport, digestion, and storing the food consumed. The thermoregulation effects of activity are the rate of burning calories in a human being by exercising and normal movements (Faires, 2011).Essential Amino AcidsThe amino acids that the body cannot produce internally are essential amino acids.

The body obtains these nutrients from proteins like meat, eggs, and beans are they are essential in a human being. In this case, dietary allocations of essential ammino acids increase muscle protein synthesis (Hulmi, Lockwood, & Stout, 2010).MetabolismMetabolism refers to the physical and chemical processes that take place in the cells of a living organism in order to sustain the life of the organism. These processes encourage growth, reproduction and allow living organisms to maintain their structures and respond to their environment.

These processes require nutrients absorption and production of energy in order to thermo regulate the body (Rose, 1999).Catabolism Catabolism is a complex process where substances are broken down into simple substances by living cells (de Bolster, 1997). The process liberates energy that is used for work, heat production and energy storage from body nutrients during metabolic body processes.
