The Al-Qaeda is one of the most dangerous groups, as they pose a threat to the Homeland Security in the US. In the 2001 9/11 Attacks that involved attack on 3 locations in the US and the Hijacking of more than 3 flights, more than 3000 people were killed. The magnitude of the attacks was very serious. In the 1998 US Embassy Bombing in East Africa, more than 3000 people were killed, which included most locals. In more than 1 occasion, the Al-Qaeda and Bin Laden have planned to assassinate the US President and other important political leaders in the US.

The 1993 bombing in the WTO in New York killed about 6 people, but the plan was to assassinate 250,000 people. The magnitude of the attacks by the Al-Qaeda is serious, even though they plan to attack at a even larger magnitude. The Al-Jihad may have united with the Al-Qaeda just before the US 9/11 Attacks. The Hezbollah may not be able to risk US citizens in the US, but are certainly a risk to US Embassy Staff and military in the Middle East. On the other hand, the HAMAS may seem a threat to the US, though have not succeeded in launching a serious attack on US soil (US State Department 2009 & RMS 2011).

Select a terrorist group for your SLP project, other than Al-Qaeda and Al-Jihad (your selection is not restricted to the three terrorist groups above). You will be focusing on this terrorist group for the remainder of the SLP assignments. Provide a brief rationale why you are selecting this group.The terrorist group I have chosen is the Hezbollah. They are a very dangerous terrorist group especially in the Middle East. They may not be able to incur terrorist attacks on the US, but there is strong evidence that they may have strong support from certain groups in the US.

Several thousands of supporters may in fact be present in the US. The Hezbollah is known to be far more sophisticated and dangerous than the Al-Qaeda, and following the death of Bin Laden, the Al-Qaeda may no longer be a very serious threat to the US. There is also evidence that the attack on the nuclear sites present in Iran may inflame the Hezbollah and launch a terrorist attack on the US (NCTC 2011 & MSNBC 2012).
