A specialized practioner of this field is called pediatrician. All health issues faced by children including infections and psychosocial problems are examined by pediatric specialists. After 11 years of post secondary education including four years of MBBS, in order to continue the three years’ internship and residency, all graduates are asked to appear in the licensing exam for continuing their practices as a pediatric specialist.

Orthopedic surgeons refer child patients to physical therapists. A physical therapist detects the health issues and treats infants. The major areas that a physical therapist focuses are the injuries affecting muscle, bones and joints. Children facing health issues like delay in nutritional development, cerebral palsy, and torticollis are common problems treated by physical therapists. Before surgery the therapist evaluates the amount of pain a patient is suffering, the condition of the organ affected and also the genetic features of the family which can affect the outcome.

After surgery, the therapist evaluates how much therapy will be needed. The rehabilitation period can be evaluated by condition of the patient on accompanied by orthopedic surgery (Strange).Pediatrician diagnoses and treats heath issues related to children and young adults. The conditions, diseases, and injuries treated by a pediatrician are: Iron deficiency, ingrown toenails, incapability to use galactose from the use of sugar (Galactosemia), absorption of too much iron (hemochromatosis), stuffering, celiac diseases creating irritability and depression, rheumatic fever, and ear infections etc.

Common infections affecting children treated by pediatrician are: Sore throat infection (Mono) resulting swollen glands and fever, Viral infection (Roseola) causing high fever, itching ( Pinworms), Pneumonia, Severe cough (Whooping cough),Tetanus for preventing wounds from bacteria action, chickenpox – causing itchy rash, pink eye causing eye irritation, ear infections affecting hearing and ability to learn language (Craine).The products used by pediatrician are:Scales: For weighing the infant and evaluate his health development.

Sphygmomanometer: Sphygmomanometer is used to evaluate the blood pressure of the infant. A cuff is placed around the arm and inflated to read the blood pressure on the gauge.Stethoscope: In order to listen to the child’s heart and lungs pediatricians use stethoscope. A pediatrician places the flat end of stethoscope on the chest to listen the heart and to listen the lungs he places it against the back. He may ask the child to breathe deeply. Otoscope: It is used to evaluate the inside of ear canal and ear drum.

The probe is inserted into the ear and ear infection or any other problem is assessed with a magnifying glass and light (King, Henretig and King).
