One argument that supports the prescriptive authority of psychologists is that many non-clinicians, nurses, and pharmacists who have spent fewer years in clinical pharmacology, have prescriptive authority then why not psychologists who are authentic clinicians?

Also, this authority will make access to medication a lot easier. Those who oppose it argue that the psychology curriculum should not contain a biomedical approach in it and this should be restricted to clinicians only. They also argue that non-clinicians such as nurses also found it hard to gain prescriptive authority in earlier times but this caused loss to the medical community.3. Alcohol consumption, in the U.S., is considered to be legal after the age of eighteen but this does not mean that teens do not consume it.

Teenage binge drinking has increased since last decade since kids and teens get it through one way or another. 52% of adults report that they are current regular drinkers (“Vital and Health Statistics”). The facts and statistics are different for people belonging to different religions, ethnicity, and regions in the U.S. “Worldwide recorded per capita consumption has remained stable at around 4.3–4.7 liters of pure alcohol since 1990”, according to World Health Organization (8).
