? Final Project on Ten Departments of Massachusetts General Hospital The Aim of the Project The project is aimed at describing ten departments in our hospital including department of: oncology, gynecology, gastroenterology, obstetric, pulmonary, dermatology, cardiology, orthopedics, neurology and endocrinology Oncology Department The department provides treatment including radiotherapy and chemotherapy for cancerous tumors. It normally deals with cancers and tumors. Our oncology department has developed the most innovative and effective radiation therapies globally. These therapies include proton beam therapy and IORT. Our ontology department efforts on laboratory research are focused on both epithelial and hematologic malignancies. We have special pediatric facilities for pediatric patients. We also have quality facilities for the adults. Brain tumors are the most common conditions we encounter with most of our patients. Last year Henry Friedman showed a serious oligodendrogliomas a primary tomur which became worse with rapid growth of malignant cell in his brain. We are able to minimize damage to the tissues around tumors in the head. This is possible because of our state-of-the-art radiation technologies and qualified radiotherapists, physicians and nurses which are not there in many hospitals in USA. We have established cancer support service to help in emotional support and advice to patients, their families and friends. Pulmonary Department The pulmonary department mostly attends to patients suffering from conditions affecting the breathing system (Levitzky, 2007). Among the most common condition we treat are respiratory failure, cystic fibrosis, allergies and asthma. We had a serious case in 2010 where Mary S. Scott suffered from a cystic fibriosis. Our department was able to treat her no matter the complications. We achieve to execute treatment on these conditions by offering advanced therapies like mechanical ventilation, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, continuous dialysis, and lung transplantation. In this department we have comprehensive capabilities to perform diagnosis and therapies. This is evident when we come to interventional pulmonology, an area emphasizing on sophisticated diagnostic methods and therapeutic procedures. Dermatology Department Dermatology department deals with controlling, diagnostic and treatment of cosmetic skin related conditions (Bolognia, 2008). All our dermatologists have advanced training in laser and cosmetic procedures which makes them capable of treating almost every skin cosmetic condition in the world. The department includes full range of specialties such as phototherapy, contact dermatitis treatment of melanoma, and light and pigment disorders. We have recently improved our machines in the laboratory to help deal with diagnosis of conditions like rosacea which is the most common in the department. This year in February Arfed G. grishamm showed the worst case of rosacea but fortunately he was saved by our dermatologists. Orthopedics Department Our hospital (Massachusetts General Hospital) is the leading orthopedic department in the USA. We are thinking of establishing a treatment plan to be providing for transport services to patients with orthopedic disorders. Common conditions are broken limbs and dislocations. We were able to save James B. Hall who had all his four limbs brocken. As a way of ensuring that they are treated in the best way forward, we keep updating our laboratories with resent x-ray machines, ultrasound machines and many other machines as well as introducing new ones. In this department, we have surgeons who deal with dislocation and fructures, The surgeons are responsible cutting off limbs in case of a severe condition which rarely happens with our patients. Obstetric Department The department consists of special nurses, midwives and technicians who offer maternity services.
