Organizational Model Consistent with the needs and demands for health care services, the utilization management (UM) model was deemed the most appropriate model applied in MACH (McNally, 2004). As disclosed, “UM is a process that places the right patient with the right provider in the right location at the right time providing the right services producing the right outcome at the right cost (Patch, 2003; cited by McNally, 2004, p. 15). Applying this model in MACH’s pharmacy department, it is emphasized that the thrust is into maximization of resources and minimization of costs.

Likewise, it is presumed that the pharmacy department conforms to the minimum standards imposed by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacy (ASHP), as advised, “the mission of pharmacists is to help people make the best use of medications” (American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, 2001, p. 1524). Therefore, open communication is most appropriate to ensure that relevant exchange of information on a timely and cost-effective manner would be utilized at all times. Sharing Knowledge or Involving Employees in Decision-Making Process Since MACH is governed and operated by the government, communication and decision-making process follow a chain of command and guidelines, policies, and procedures as prescribed by the organization.

For instance, in the Hospital Orientation for Newcomers manual (Martin Army Community Hospital, n.d.) provides guidelines for diverse operations, safety policies and procedures, patient safety program, rights and responsibilities of both patients and personnel, and the use of information, among others.
