The newest coolest trend among college students today is social media, which include the use of the internet for communication, access to news and interaction via facebook, texting, and listening to music through a laptop, computer, phone, and iPod.

Social media has been transferred through increased connectivity via computers and phones, which have augmented in quantity in recent years. Case study- Culture traits and Cultural landscapes There are several instances where the Middle East and the American Southwest have differed especially on policies on terrorism, religion, and democracy. Muslim oppression, independence, and traditional cultures being impended by globalization of western culture are some of the reasons for the bombing of World Trade Center and Pentagon by Muslim terrorists. Despite these differences in ideology, the two sides promote cultural stereotypes on the war on terrorism.

The Middle East view the “Western System as a unified threat led by the United States while the Western side view the Middle East as a hostile, war torn area of radical fundamentalists and suicide bombers” (Kuby et al., 2013). Ignorance of history and culture by Al-Qaeda is prevalent as there was ecological trilogy consisting of nomads, farmers and city traders and rulers. Turkey, Iran, and Morocco are the only countries in the Middle East that were independent with the others being colonized by European Powers, hence the Iraq invasion dependent mainly on boundaries set by Europeans and not Iraqis.

The perception that most parts of the Middle East is a desert region is not true owing to the prevalence of different climate conditions including semi-desert climate zones that allow for growth of short scattered shrubs and grasses, Mediterranean climate characterized by dry summers and cool winter with Atlas Mountains and Fertile Crescent receiving high snow amounts. Large amounts of arid land dominate both the Middle East and the American Southwest. The Southwest is characterized by desert plants in Southeastern California to West Texas including the Sonoran, Great Basin, Mojave, and Chihuahuan deserts.

American Southwest also has Mediterranean climate similar to some parts of the Middle East in Coastal South California. The Southwest region is also characterized by the presence of mountains, rivers, and the Rainbow Bridge that forms a tourist attraction site being the longest natural bridge in the world. The South West has Native Americans, Hispanics, and Anglo-Americans as a composition of its population. This is characterized by the formation of irrigation canals and dwellings areas and the construction of roads for the flourishing of these communities.

Ranching, farming and mining are the main economic activities in the Southwest coupled by tourism and retail trade. Symbolism There are a number of symbols evident in the Middle East with wearing of veils symbolizing a sheltered status of women. Desertification and semi arid climates in the Southwest are symbolized by the presence of saguaro cactus, Joshua trees, and yuccas. Tortillas and luminarias symbolize Hispanics presence in Southwest America and therefore can best define it. The use of physical characteristics to define the Middle East is not very appropriate, as there are differences in the state of the region in terms of the deserts and other climatic conditions, the composition of the people and economic activities.
