. 122 23rd, April What do women undergo? During the past few decades, women have faced with a significant pressure of building up a social icon. Women have taken active part in their career development, competing thus with men for managerial and professional jobs. Thus, for example, in 1980 only 26 percent of women held managerial and professional jobs, while now this number has almost doubled, exceeding 51 percent (Hanna, 50). Despite a significant decrease of inequality gap between genders in the twenty first century, there are still instances of it happening everywhere, especially in the east. Thus, for example, as of 2013, thousands of Muslim women were still forced to wear burqa to cover their faces and body in the public. Women also still tend to earn lower income then men even when they have similar experience and background. Besides unequal pay and social discrimination, there are many other gender issues, which arise in various situations. This is what can be viewed in the daily news on TV; this is what happens in our daily lives. Women face negative situation all the time, and it is difficult for female to dig a way out of the situation. However, in order to address this problem it is important to know some historical evidence and clarify its roots. It is a perceived “tradition” that women should not receive equal rights as man and this perception can though back into the Nacirema period. In the Nacirema time, people believed in different kinds of cruel religious rites, such as, healing an ill person with inhumanity, offering rich gifts to guardians for getting ill person treated. Afterwards, the holy-mouth-man would open client’s mouth, use different tools to enlarge the hole in clients’ mouths and put into these holes magical materials. All of the male and female have to suffer those inhumanity rituals because it is viewed as normal by a given society in a given period. In addition to those cruel rituals, female also were required to undergo extra tortures dictated by barbarity rules. Horace explained in his article that “special women’s rite were preformed only four times during each lunar month, but what did they lack in frequency was made up in barbarity. As part of the ceremony, women baked their heads in small ovens for about an hour.” (Horace 41) Unlike other region, Nacirema people treated their female members in ferocious way that could be nowadays interpreted as physical insulting of females. Therefore, in addition to the fact that female members did not have the rights equal to the rights of men, they undergo even crueler treatment than male. It is not fair for female to suffer neither “normal” rites nor the special rites that were specifically developed for females. There is no logical reason and purpose of why women should have undergo those cruel actions. However, the personal interests of people (often authoritative), who had earlier ways to spread this insulting information to public, could explain such inadequate and discriminatory behavior towards women. As we step into a new and brighter century, women intend to take their own control. Later researches have shown that Nacirema was actually the backward spelling of the word ‘American’ and later, holy-mouth-men has become a dentist in modern society. The name of a holy-mouth-men perfectly illustrates how male take the position of this job. Why cannot female enroll in these kinds of job? Nowadays, there are more male dentists than female dentists. Relying on my personal experience, I can support this view. Every time I go to check my teeth, I have different doctors and all they are men. Of course, there are many females who work in the clinic, but none of them works as a dentist. Most of the females in my clinic work as a nurse; some of them work at the reception, whereas the main functions are limited to greetings of guests, scheduling, and communication with clients. In order to become a real dentist a person needs to devote almost 7 years including study and internship between ages of 20 to 30. In our society this age is deemed to be the best period for female to get married and have family. This idea has influenced entire society centuries and centuries. Women can not handle heavy jobs than man do; women intend to take more personal emotion into their work. There are many other signs and cases on the Internet or news that considers women discrimination has spread into our lives everywhere. While the shift moves towards increased female participation, general perception that women are better to stay at home is still relevant. Some researchers even today tend to claim that women should stay home to take care of its’ own family and children. They think women staying at home that it was protecting the dignity of women. An argument against women staying at home involves the fact that it is viewed as a kind of oppression against women. This is because forcing women to stay at home infringes on their basic and fundamental human rights. Forcing women to stay at home curtails their freedom of association and expression. Hence, it is regarded as a form of oppression against women, and should not be allowed in the contemporary society. The law of forcing women to stay at home is human rights violation as it is similar to a house arrest of women. Additionally, forcing women to stay at home violates the basic rights of freedom of association among women. Society does not give enough confidence to females in work fields or in families. Many heavily jobs recruit only male workers, because they believe that men are stronger than women, and therefore, they can move around things faster and easier. In these days, people do more online shopping, and it is worth to notice that most of the delivery people are males. I have met many workers employed in delivery service, and about 80 percent of them were males. The society still believes that males are stronger than females, and therefore, males should dominate a specific society. Since they are stronger and more powerful than female, they are easily to find a job. When male and female work in the same fields, female workers always are subject to numerous negative rumors and opinions, often spread by men. People generally think that female cannot handle high position and heavy workload, both physical and emotional. Many of them still disagree (or silently disagree) with female being a leader of the company or the group because they think that males have natural genes to run the business better. This behavior also is a type of discrimination based on the gender factor. Women have power and rights to be treat as equal. No one is better than anyone just only because he is a man. They are many outstanding people, but in majority all they are hard workers. These people have devoted their time and resources in order to gain new knowledge and experience. Gender inequality issue arises not only in the American society, but also in many other societies across the globe. In the year of 2011, the government of France decided that veil did not satisfy country’s culture values. The French government also decided to ban face covering and introduced an Act that prohibited the covering of the face in public. The ban has elicited several reactions from the public. Some individuals were in favor of the ban while others were against the ban of burqa for various reasons. Most Muslims regarded the wearing of the veil as a religious symbol. Research has shown that there were more than 50 millions of Muslims living in France at that time. This population added 20 percent to the total population in the country, and there was an increased threat of tremendous potential safety issue to people in France. In this specific case, banning of the burqa should be regarded as an infringement of the basic rights of women in relation to the freedom of worship or religion. The ban is therefore considered as bad as women would be allowed to make their own liberal choices on whether to wear the veils of not. This ban should therefore not be made in a democratic state as it involves the infringement of an individual’s basic human rights. The law in relation to the ban of wearing veils in France banned women with veils from engaging in any form of public activity. Therefore women in veils were required to stay at home and not engage themselves in any public activity. The law in favor of the ban of burqa suggested the fact that the state had a fundamental right to protect its citizens. The French law in its decision to ban the wearing of the veil was offering the protection of law to women. It is argued that women or any other citizen should not be forced to engage in a particular practice against their will. Therefore, the law on the ban of burqa was important in defending the free will of women in relation to wearing of the veil. Hence, in my opinion the argument in protection of women in terms of their free will in wearing the veil is regarded as the strongest argument in favor of the ban of burqa. Thus, this law is repressive and barbaric and should not be implemented on women. In conclusion I would like to stress that, female Muslims undergo different lifestyles, and their behavior is subject to valuations of different rules. It is our time to help them and give them more support to change the traditional thoughts. There number of working spaces, globalization, focus on CSR altogether generate greater opportunities for women. There is an old saying, where the idea is given as follows ‘if you want to be stronger and powerful, you will have to build up yourself first; once you have earned all kinds of stills, you will have the world on your hand’. It may not make a active action when females just generally shoot to be treat equally, female have to take it in action and build a stronger icon in order to prove that they are equal members of a given society. All of the female should work together to build a better self and greater future.
