Women as Morally Suspect Devil wears Prada is a comedy-drama film and is actually a loose screen adaptation of Lauren Weisbergers 2003 novel of the same name. It was released on June30, 2006 and was distributed by 20th century Fox. This best-selling novel was about a young woman who stumbles into the frantic worlds of high fashion and publishing comes to the big screen in this comedy. Two main female characters, Anne Hathaway as Andy Sachs, a recent college graduate who goes to New York City and acquire a job as a co-assistant to powerful and demanding fashion magazine editor Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly. The basic plot elements of Weisbergers novel kept in place but the Screenwriter produced an entirely different crisis at the end of the story, which in tern changed many of the characters. The story shows the professional adventure of Andy who wants to become a journalist. She gets job at "Runway," Americas most high-status fashion journal as personal assistant to editor Miranda Priestly. Miranda is a diva with a lot of power within the magazine business and she never afraid to use it. Andy struggles very hard to hold on the job under the cold and extremely critical working environment of Miranda. Miranda Priestly is a type of female boss that an employee would wish to eliminate. She put Andy’s to experience a living hell by her notoriously demands, merciless behavior and her living only for the magazine and fashion. Moreover, she can get rid of her colleagues and employees anytime she wants only to protect her own self. Miranda loves challenging individuals and makes them fall on her own trap. When any conflicts occur, she didn’t mind stepping on other people to save her self from dishonor. This all expresses Miranda as a morally corrupted woman in front of audience. The main character Miranda Priestly is obviously a kind of person that wants to have everything in just one click. There are some reasons to believe as true that she works like ice queen and dragon lady. As she works in the top of the Runway fashion magazine, she has to treaty with billions of dollars each day. If she is so emotional, other people cannot trust at her and will make a low estimate of her; despite the fact people take more respect toward women. Furthermore, she considers power as her main goal in life instead relationship with others. Miranda priestly is an emotionless lady which considers her power over her relationship. Miranda’s work was her identity but not her relationship. She was unable to answer what is more important either career or relationship for her, but all over her action proves that she does. By the fact, she was always in the state of being despised and faced many divorce experiences as a social punishment. She should not divorce but it is a natural thing among the bad family relationships and everybody has to face it if careless and emotionless about family. No doubt she is brilliant and successful woman in her profession but she fails her marriage because she is workaholic. Miranda has become a cruel boss due to her emotionally attachment with her profession. She needs every thing in time and her strong personality drives her employee to go nuts. Her persistency over things gives a high dose of irritation and frustration. She could do anything to get hold of her position as the editor-in-chief of the admired New York fashion magazine, the Runway. Being a boss Miranda has a personal assistant Andy Sachs for the fashion magazine “Runway”. Andy has to bear all her merciless behavior in order to hold that job and keep progressing. She was not much aware of fashion and makes fun of girls with the stiletto heels. But she keeps hard working and learns how to dress, which put her up to Mirandas favorites list. By doing all this doesnt, however, stop Miranda from treating Andy like a slave. Ultimately, Andy fits in the work and does excellent works for Miranda. In the film, Andy changed her old self for her to fit in, for her to be among those people that work and worship their immoral boss. She changed her physical appearance and well-read how to act like Miranda especially in dealing with influential people. She adores her superior’s line of attack in getting things to be done. However, Miranda set Andy to experience the moral variance between her objective and her relationship. Soon after she realizes that she’s Miranda Priestly in the making. Andy realized that Runway is not for her. She yearns for her old self and habitually she wants her loved ones back again. Andy felt isolation although she is about to possess her dream of becoming a well-known person in the fashion industry like Miranda. Just right on time, she steps out of Miranda’s shadow. Andy patches up everything with her family, friends and especially with her boyfriend. One thing that pushes her to realize things is her true personality, that she can’t be a heartless person like her boss anymore. She doesn’t have the power to do things that would spoil people just to remain on top. These things motivate her to recover awareness and to be on the right track again.
