The Fight for Human Rights The fight for human rights stretches far along to include, the right for fare treatment at places of work, right for association, information, communication, freedom from oppression among others. The world all over, there has been great movements that have been fighting for workers’ right. This is expressed in the article “the industrial workers of the world (1905 and 1908) (Sellars). In this article there has been a cry from the workers who are oppressed by their bosses, subjected to low wages and more so, being replaced by machines leading to termination of their jobs prematurely. It is well stated that labors are most of the times classified by the employer according to the machines he or she feels are suitable to them and no more according to the trade skills and experience they possess. The labors’ are subjected to work at the same rate as the machine, which is tiresome (Sellars). This has led to the fight for their rights through the formation of unions and organizations. Despite these movements, the employers also come in unity to form their organizations to fight the war upon labor. They pit the laborers against one another and suppress them to greater exertion in the work place more than before they resisted the oppression (Sellars). In Assata Shakur’s Bibliography, she values working and says that since she was young she was taught how to work to achieve the best and succeed in life. She is against any form of oppression to any worker. Although most of the people see her as fighting for the rights of the blacks. She is more fighting for the same social class for all the people and this include the workers at the offices, industries and any other place of work. She advocates for the rights of the workers to be given a chance to progress in their fields of work and find satisfaction in the work of their hands. She says that she says that one climbing the ladder he or she has to move from the bottom to the top but not to stay at the bottom forever. How would one climb the up the ladder in the office if he or she does not move from the bottom? It is the goal of every worker to one day be the chief executive of the company but not to fight opposition to find him/herself there. Assata being a socialist worker fights the capitalists who oppress their workers and subject them to forced labor with minimal wage rates. She expresses her cry on the slave labor that the Americans subjected the blacks into (Shakur). In the article “the industrial workers of the world” (Sellars), the textile workers in Lowell, Fall River and Philadelphia are weakened by disintegrating effects of the trade divisions. The workers are unsupported by their fellow workers who are subjected to the same masters who oppress them. The workers cry is on the corrupt system that offers no hope for adaptation and improvement at the places of work. The claim is that there is no any hope for a silver lining to clouds of despair and darkness that is manifested in the labor world. This shatters the statuses of the workers into rubbles, thus rendering them impotent and helpless in the fight for their rights (Sellars). These oppressions to the workers can be reformed and the interests of the workers upheld through an organization that would require its members in all the industries to cease work when a lockout or strike occurs in one industry. This will make their cry heard because the injury is felt by all the industries in the world. The article author advocates for an abolition of all the wage system in the world and instead workers to be employed on a permanent basis. Through this their oppression will come to an end. In the second article, the declaration of sentiments and resolution on the rights of women, there is the cry by the ladies to be given freedom and their rights to belong in the society. In this article the women held a conference to discuss the way forward. They resolve that the laws that prevent them from being equal to man in the society should be abolished. This is because they presume that they were created equal by God and no one should oppresses them or feel that they are inferior (Bratt). They also resolved that as much man feels he is superior intellectually to women, he should give the women the right and encourage her to teach and speak as she is entitled to all the religious assemblies in the society. The women also declare that the same delicacy, virtue and refinement of behavior that they are required to adhere to in the society, should also be subjected to the men. The women claim that the same indiscretions should be punished equally on both genders. The women claim that men should not feel that they are above everything on earth and that they should treat women as equals to them and not as other creatures. They claim that men feel as if God created them more special than the women the reason why they feel that they should subject the ladies as inferior. This is even the women are treated inhuman and even raped by men in the streets. It is a discrimination of the highest order. This goes against God’s wish that all human beings are special. No one is superior to anyone else and that no one should oppress another human being (Bratt). In Assata Shakur book, she claims that she was mistreated and subjected to torture by men who had no mercy on her. It is a crime she faced because she was a woman. She claims that a woman was seen as a fair game for to any man at any time. She also asserts that women were seen as sex objects to their masters or visiting guests who were given to them to pleasure their thirsty (Shakur 116). She says this act subjected innocent women to prostitutes under the command of their masters. This made her fight for her rights and the rights of everyone who was oppressed by their masters. Assata fought for human rights because she was subjected to crimes and mistreatment in terms of race, class and gender. She survived an attempted rape, the main reason she challenged gross sexism in the United States. From the article for the fight of women rights, the women claim that their success depends on the untiring and zealous efforts of both genders. This is to make them overthrow the much publicized monopoly of men in various professions, trade and commerce positions in the society (Bratt). Conclusion For the survival of all human beings in the world freely, there should be laws that are non-discriminative and that have severe punishment for the offenders of the human rights. Women and labors have been the subject of oppression all over the world. It is an act that should come to an end and every leader in the world to condemn any oppression of any human being.
