Gender Inequality and Art Unit Gender Inequality and Art Gender issues Gay/lesbian Contraception Feminism Prostitution Discrimination Pictures retrieved from and Introduction My interest in monitoring the progress made to balance the gender inequality made me write on the topic of gender inequality in our society. The research paper tries to explain a series of pictures that explain gender discrimination in our society, the rate and risks that have risen over the past and what has been done towards bridging the huge difference. Womens position in modern and traditional society is and closes comparison done. Women representation at work place and in politics is in detail showing the difference levels of women contribution. Strides have been made towards achieving equality in our society e.g. educating the girl child, employing women in our workplace and designating huge roles to women, sharing of family roles especially those regarding the care giving, and gender balance in women representation, in politics. This progress is in detail, in the research work to appreciate the efforts done to bridge the difference. None the less, this is art contribution to fighting gender inequality. Gender inequality This dissertation is on a collection of pictures in art work that tries to explain the gap in our social society where gender inequality is rather a something of concern. Women in our society have been violated against their rights and thus there is a reason to fight for their rightful position in our modern society. Traditionally, women had to stay at home and the man was the sole bread winner in the family, women had no place in politics or any decision making process except on petty issues. This has rapidly changed in our modern society where the line between men and women roles is almost becoming invisible. Various issues have been raised on gender inequalities and include the following; violence on the women where women are killed by their partners or in cases of domestic violence. That is mainly experienced in Africa, some religion and cultures demean the women rights to express themselves and restrict them to particular clothing. In my fifth picture, there is a picture of a woman who is covered up to the head. This might not be her wish to dress so but has to adhere to the rules and regulation of her harsh culture and religion. Women have also been discriminated at workplaces and there are a series of pictures showing this. They are either underpaid or even not paid at all. Some are even oppressed to sexual molestation that if they do not submit to their boss demands they lose their job. In the ninth picture, we see a man who is getting cash from his wallet to pay the woman beside him probably for the services offered. This is sexual harassment on women. Women are not sex tools to be used and paid with cash but rather are not supposed to be a companion to man. In my first picture, the lady is divided about going to work or to lose the family; this may be in a place where the culture believes that the husband is the sole breadwinner. The huge wage gap between men and women is a matter of concern. The role of childcare has always been left to the women for long. This needs to be addressed as a child belongs to both parents and it is their obligation to take care of the child. Women representation both in politics and the workplace is wanting. The ratio of 5:1 for every five men there is a single woman something that has led to widening of the gender inequality gap in our modern society. It is good to appreciate the efforts being made by women in our society to meet the gender inequality. Women are always demanding the rights and this can be in the last picture. Women are nowadays educated as men and are even better off in some roles than men. In my seventh picture, we are shown a picture of men and women running to work. This symbolises the stiff competition that women are now giving to men at our workplace. This is the kind of progress that is needed in our society. The community should learn to appreciate the contribution made by the women in our society. Gender wage gap remains a major challenge in the fight against gender inequality. Highest rate is in the US. Despite the contribution of men in child care and house chore help, the contribution made is still low and should be encourage increasing more efforts towards the same. The society should be enlightened on the matter and learn to appreciate efforts and contribution made by everyone whether male or female. It has been noted that the major obstacle that restrains women’s efforts to be appreciated at work place same as men is the amount of time committed to work by both men and women. Women tend to have two jobs at the same time. They need to allocate time for office jobs and time to do house chores and attend to kids. This has raised concern that men do not do the second responsibility and will thus put more time to their office job hence will out smart their counterparts. If the workplace requires more time the women will be rendered less helpful. References Blaire, L. (1999). Angles of Vision How to Understand Social Problems . Westview Press.
