Gender identity the same as sexual orientation is a not a conscious being but a of being. The Transgender individuals are welcome in some countries, but the view of this gender cross is depicted through the dress code, natural biology, behavior and the conflict between the biological sex and internationalized gender. Intersex is the variation in sex characteristics including genitals and chromosomes that deny a person a chance to be distinctly identified as female or male. The world has a mindset that there are only two genders; one can be male or female.
Due to this reason those born transgender or intersex experience problems especially having people know of their gender identity. Being male or female, behaving like one and feeling like one is regarded as normal, and any different feeling or orientation becomes abnormal. This becomes serious as everyone even the Transgender believes in that, seeing themselves as different from others.Being a female or a male is regarded normal and anyone who shows signs different from that is regarded as abnormal.
This perspective makes the lives of transgender individuals to be full of discomfort out of the difference in gender identity causing gender dysphoria. The normal concept makes the transgender and intersex individuals live a life of fear or a closeted one trying to convince their selves that their different feelings are caused by over active imaginations. This feeling makes the individuals live in intense fear of being discovered. When these people get in social places like school the norm disturbs them as the students are characterized as boys or girls and there are traits associated with each.
Girls wear dresses; boys are normally seen playing with toys, there is also a difference in color choice like boys love blue while girls love pink. The transgendered and intersex individuals do not have many options, and they try to fit in the “norm” to hide their true selves. This affects them as they become judgmental of their selves and other people, they become frightened that other people will discover their secret and they usually overtime live as isolated from the world (Litosseliti, & Sunderland, 2002).
We can upset the upset the concept of normal troubling the Transgender and intersex individuals through different ways. Foucault said that the repression created by the wealthy in the early times created the issue we have with accepting gender disparities. According to early system, sexual matters are to be discussed privately like during confessions. To change the perception, there is a need to talk about sex openly for the sake of normalizing the gender identity differences. This will free the population feeling abnormal because they are different from what is male or female (normal) (Foucault, 1992).
The normal perspective has taken the power system subordinating those groups with different gender traits. Using Patricia Collins thought we can upset the system by having the transgender and intersex a different view of themselves from the current view. The differences among the individuals should be substantiated by the sense of their own experiences. With that, a fair judgment will be given and also their need to be included as normal should be validated by lived experiences from other transgender individuals.
With such actions, the world will have a different view on truth about the individuals that can easily bring in change (Hill, 2004). Differentiating a male and a female we mostly look into the physical appearance as the social construction has made us believe so, and we follow the trend found. For the sake of normalizing the gender identity issue there, is need to end all the limits in the sexual discourse preventing people to talk about sexuality. The talk is important to help people understand that viewing the body from one standpoint creates ignorance as individuals have different embodiment experiences.
We should view things as they are not with the creation set by the society or what they regard as the norm. When people agree to talk about sex on the perspective will change, and those disadvantaged by unfair socialization regarding gender identity will be saved from the concept of normal (Holland, et al, 1994).Works CitedFoucault, Michel.
