An individual that has a dominant attribute of any of these aspects becomes part of the dominant group. Dominant groups play a vital role in the establishment of identities among members of society (Pearson higher).

Significance of the concept

It is critical to understand dominance in society since it is a vital aspect of the community. Dominance has various repercussions in fields such as fashion, politics, and other aspects of society. Thus, understanding this concept will be vital in this discipline. Additionally, dominance influences human aspects such as sexuality significantly. Consequently, understanding this concept will provide us with vital insight into various issues in this society. Therefore, this concept is vital in understanding issues such as social classes and their influence on trends. Classism is a key component of sociology hence, studying dominance would enable an individual to understand this component appropriately (Brantley et.al).

Gains from understanding dominance

Understanding dominance would enable us to understand the problems which contribute lead to dominance. These factors include wealth, race, education, and culture. Therefore, understanding how these factors contribute to dominance will enable us to have a comprehensive view of this topic. Additionally, it will enable a student to understand other social which surround dominance. Factors such as wealth, power, race, education, and culture influence dominance subsequently relevant studies will reveal what the minority parties are doing to achieve the dominant status. Additionally, studying dominance would provide insight into how various social classes perceive each other. Understanding dominance would also expand our knowledge of the existing groups and their interaction. A combination of power and wealth will result in a super-dominant group. Therefore, studying how factors that determine dominance interact would be essential. In American society, dominance has been maintained in various ways. First, through economic channels as such, people seeking higher offices in the political system encounter several challenges that include the high cost of fees which results in only the rich pursuing such offices. Additionally, tertiary education has proved costly hence; the majority of the population cannot afford it. Consequently, only persons with adequate financial capabilities can pursue the best education (Pearson Higher).

Dominant groups in America

In America, there are various dominant groups. The Caucasian community is the dominant racial group while others such as the Afro-Americans, Latinos, Mexicans, and Red Indians are minorities. There is also the ruling elites group, which includes persons in the most influential positions irrespective of their race. Wealthy personalities also constitute a dominant group owing to their economic endowment (Brantley et.al).
