Now if this connection is cut, the two hemispheres became independent and can think on their own. The different thinking approach of the two hemispheres can then be studied. This was the basis of the split-brain research. However, the present advancement in the field of radiology such as CAT scans and MRI have enabled scientists to view activity of brain without doing any invasive procedures. Seiji Ogawa is a prominent researcher who proved in 1993 that two the hemispheres are not very distinct in their final processing. In fact, they both operate synchronously to perform a higher cognitive function (Duggan). Although there is a mutual cooperation between the two sides of our brain we depend more on one than the other. So by understanding how the right and left brain react to any given input and then coordinates with each other, we can learn how to polish our dominant skills to obtain a more productive output. This differentiation of brain is present from birth but early in life, they need a good communication with each hemisphere and localization is minimal but as they grow up and learn different skills domination of a particular hemisphere takes place. (Fox et al).
In order to understand how each side of your brain learns you need to understand their strength and function. Left side of our brain is logical and analytical, hence, it learns with critical thinking and reasoning. In contrast to that, our right brain is creative and expressive and best learns by the help of visual inputs, colors and imagination. In addition, the right side of our brain identifies negative emotions more quickly and left side of the brain identifies positive emotions more quickly (Fox et al). It is very important that teaching institutions understand these different learning potentials of our brain.

...? The left brain versus the right brain: how does this impact learning The left brain versus the right brain: how does this impact learning The “split brain” experiments of Dr. Roger Sperry with split-brain patients concluded that the left and right brain has a specific function (Robbins, 1985). The result of the research took a life of its own that virtually pervaded many aspects of learning and teaching and stereotyped individual’s manner of learning and even its capability. The split...

The Left Brain Vs the Right Brain

...The Left Brain Vs the Right Brain The brain happens to be one of the most amazing components of the human body, and there are a number of studies that have been conducted over it in a bid to better understand this amazing organism. The brain is in charge for the control of the rest of the body and dissemination of thoughts and ideas (Westen et al, 2006). One of the main issues that have been related to the study of the brain is its structure and the significance of the roles that each part plays in the functioning and activities of an individual (Goldberg, 2009). Among these activities is the learning...

The left brain vs. the right brain: How does this impact learning

...? Left vs. Right Brain: How Does This Impact Learning Introduction The concept of brain based learning is quite novice for the field of education and research on the concept and its practical application is still ongoing. Brain based learning is a term used to refer to the acceptance of the fact that the brain of different individuals process information in a different manner and instructions should be provided accordingly to facilitate learning (Duman, 2010, p.2080). One of the major topics of brain based learning is...

Presently, a growing body of literature can be found contemplating the nature of association between left or right brain and the impact executed on learning. General consensus is that both hemispheres are actively used in processing information and learning. However, sufficient evidence...

...poets and artists. And there is the world itself, which requires us to do more left-brain thinking than right. Under these circumstances, our left brains become more and more developed while our right brains shrink, metaphorically speaking, from under-use (Lee, 1999). In this age of education by test-taking, all our instructional efforts seem to help students master left-brain skills because that's what the tests measure. But to what extent should we also be helping kids develop a sense of design, storytelling abilities, feelings for others, humor, and the ability to detect the importance of the information they...

Left brain vs right brain thinking

...Left Brain vs Right Brain Thinking Teacher               Left Brain vs Right Brain Thinking Is it important to know whether one thinks with his right or with his left brain? Although scientists have various opposing views on this theory, it is important to know whether distinction between the two brain hemispheres really makes sense, and if so, then for what purpose is it? So far, there is no direct evidence pointing out to distinct left and right brain functions, except that identification of right and...

Brain based learning

...As earlier mentioned, the topic of brain-based learning has seen various researches and one of the areas has touched on the learning process. As such, the research on teaching methods have focussed on how the brain functions is enabling the students to learn new concepts and skills over a given period and exposure (Connell, 2005). For example, the concept of neuroplasticity, an area researched under the brain-based learning, shows that there exists neural connections in a brain that are capable of remapping and reorganizing themselves the moment a person is exposed to new things to learn...
