1. The study and measurement of sexual behavior is important because the knowledge results in the following: a) proper treatment and discovery of a permanent cure for sexually transmitted diseases especially those that are killing members of society; b) treatment and cure for people who have medical issues which prevent them from being parents or having a healthy sex life; c) decrease in the rate of abortion or number of abandoned babies due to unwanted pregnancies and d) apprehension of a person who actions fall under sex crimes. 2. Public health officials should be concerned about how people define “had sex” because this would affect the policies they will create and implement to ensure public safety and health. 3. Based on the study made by Sanders and Reinisch, the problem was in determining what activities and if oral sex were considered by people as “had sex”. 4. The study was conducted in 1991.

A 102-item survey was given to 599 randomly selected undergraduates. The research adhered to ethical protocol. (Sanders, S. & Reinisch, J., 1999) 5. Adultery, statutory rape, coitus, copulation, technical virginity are important terms to the study because the sexual act is at the core of these circumstances. However, the individual needs to regard the act as “had sex”. 6. There were more Republicans in the survey. I believe the author pointed out this difference because the results of the survey would be affected by the traditional Republicans’ response. 7. One important point made in the article is that some people do not consider oral sex and penile-anal sex as “had sex”.

This is disturbing because should these individuals be victims of these activities, they would not consider it as sexual and consequently not report the offender to authorities. Another notable aspect is individuals actually have different perceptions on what “had sex” is. Thus, the sexual practices of society may be difficult to monitor and problems that arise difficult to identify and solve. 8. The study was criticized for limited generalizibility; low response rate; inadequate review of the literature; and defined “had sex,” not “sexual relations.

” I agree that the researchers could have expanded their type of respondents to include to make True or False 1. False 2. True 3. True 4. False 5. True 6. True Resource: Sanders, S. & Reinisch, J., (1999). Would Say You “Had Sex” If… ? JAMA. 281 (3). pp. 275-277. doi:10.1001/jama.281.3.275
