An article review of Comfort women: Japan’s Unpaid Reparations written by Jeeyoung Choi, published at the BC Journal of International Affairs and the Authors, Vol. 13, Spring 2010 by the Bologna Center Journal of International Affairs, SAIS John Hopkins University. This is an argumentative paper that asks for the Japanese government to admit legal responsibility on crimes against women during WWII. The author believes that the victims deserve an apology and by doing this, the political tensions between the Asian neighbors and Japan would be minimized.

Her paper is also a subtle way of pronouncing that she is supporting the advocacies of pro-comfort women rights. It is addressed to an audience that is working for this commitment. The author is able to uncover events beyond World War II and takes us to the recent scenarios of confessions of comfort women, investigations and hearings in order to convince the Japanese government to apologize. She was able to unearth researches relevant on the matter from archives and incorporated it in her study that could be useful to other interested researchers.

Other topics that she wrote about international responses like that of the US, Canada, Dutch Parliament and EU are also found in numerous articles of research, but nevertheless, a confirmation of evidence. This also shows that the argument Choi had written is backed up by pieces of evidence from primary sources. The author is a graduate student at the Bologna Center of the Johns Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies. Her areas of concentration are International Relations and International Law and Organization.
