Participation Exercise #10: Question One: What is a supply chain? How can managerial accountants help to improve thesupply chain?A supply chain refers to the different sequences or activities involved in the production process followed by the distribution of the various products that a company dwells in and provides for their customers. Managerial accountants aid improve the supply chain through the provision of information that would aid in managing the supply chain and its effective recording and management.

Information regarding to the various cost incurred in the supply chain would aid the company improve the supply chain and hence better supply of its products to its customers or distributors. Managerial accountants may also provide advice with regard to the best costing system to employ in the supply chain and production process. This would aid obtain the actual costs that the company incurs hence improving their ability to obtain profits from the process. Question Two:Would you be more likely to invest in a company, which disclosed information about their sustainable practices? Why? Why not?

I would not consider investing in a company that has its sustainable practices exposed. Disclosure of the sustainable practices that a company employs in their operations would expose the company’s approaches to competition hence eliminating the leverage that it holds over the competition. This would affect its ability to generate more returns. Based on this, it would prove challenging for such a company to perform better and beat the competition and hence the poor returns to the investors. Sustainable practices provide a company with more success prospects hence the need to protect them from the competition.
