Food and its nature Introduction Food is defined as any matter eaten to offer nutritional support for survival. Everyone needs food in order to be strong and healthy. For food to be of use and importance in the body of a consumer, it should contain nutritional ingredients needed by a particular body that consumes it. Human beings require foods with nutrients that support its healthy survival. If human beings consume harmful foods, it can result to health complications that might cause death or diseases to them. Humans are advised to take healthy-balanced diets every time they have a meal. To ensure this, nutritionists and scientists have categorized various groups of foods, and even how they can be combined to maximize its effects to the body. To ensure a healthy and productive population, all the shareholders in the food industry, most especially farmers and producers and vendors offer healthy food products. Vendors should not only consider the prices and ingredients of the products they sell to consumers, but they should reflect on everything that entails the product. Being a daily consumer of various products, I have taken a big interest in scrutinizing my vendors before purchasing. Food products have taken much of my attention considering that, my health is the most important thing. Planning to take pork for my dinner makes me remember my previous encounters with my pork vendor. He is a middle aged man who always welcomes me warmly at his butchery. Whenever I go to his butchery, he serves me swiftly and with the best pork. I am his regular customer. Having introduced several of my friends at his butchery, he values me as a customer, and he always ensures he offers me the best product and services. His treatment keeps me going back to buy from him. Additionally, he practices very high hygiene standards, and this assures me of my health safety. Concentrating more on the ingredients, preparation and price of the pork, my vendor hardly cares about other essential components. Pork prices The pork prices offered at the butchery are constant and changes after quite a long interval. Being assured of non-fluctuating prices, I am able to budget for my pork consumption on a monthly basis. The prices offered are reasonably favorable to anyone who considers taking pork. This makes its consumption constant and very profitable to the vendor. Through this strategy, the vendor has achieved a niche in the neighborhood and always clears his supply. His products are always safe and healthy for consumption. The vendor, especially insists much when advertising his fixed price for the pork. His insistence makes his consumers understand the economic gain, they achieve if they consider buying from him. The marketing strategy wins the loyalty of several consumers who also introduce other new customers. Due to this, the vendor has been able to expand the business over time. One has to be able to set favorable prices below his or her competitors to be a successful vendor. Consumers prefer to buy quality products at favorable prices. The closeness and convenience a product location is to the consumers also plays a big role in increasing sales and profits for the vendors (Gray 17). Preparation of pork Preparation of the product is also very important to be clarified by the vendor to the buyer. The pork vendor always takes his time to advise his consumers to prepare the pork thoroughly. He got out of his way and advised me to take an experiment so that I could realize why he advises me to thoroughly cook the pork. Just like Olive makes Roger think how a disgusting pork and other meat foods are, his disclosure about the active worms in the pork scared me from taking pork. It is heartbreaking and scaring when a vendor discloses some of the ingredients of the product during its preparation. It can even cause the consumer to lose their appetite (Gray15-20). It is essential for a vendor to give the buyer the procedure for preparing the food stuff they are selling. This builds the trust between the consumer and the vendor. The consumers might be consuming the particular product for the first time, and they might be preparing such a product for the first time. The pork vendor I buy from keeps on reminding all his customers to thoroughly cook the pork; practice and action that is a very commendable to any trader. He even tells his consumers of the harm pork can have on their health if they do not prepare it thoroughly. Memo It has been the trend of several vendors to maximize profits. As a result, several have neglected their consumer’s needs and health. For this reason, many people unknowingly have health complications. Not all diseases caused by all products have been discovered. This is because, new products get into the market on a daily basis. With various product entries into the market, analysts have had so much workload to deal with. This leaves them with an option of doing a basic evaluation of each product and leaving detailed scrutiny for a later date. It is only after effects reported by consumers that a detailed scrutiny is done on the product(s). Pork has always been my favorite meat. It was very disheartening when my vendor told me about the active worms in the pork. I could hardly stand the sight of any product of pork as well as all categories of meat for months. It traumatized me so much. If I never got counselling and assurance from my doctor, I would have forever had a phobia to consume any meat products. Vendors are humans and can make mistakes like any other person. It is only advisable for them to be more considerate on the information they get to disclose to their consumers. It only took a single bad comment on the contents of pork to make me as a consumer avoids taking pork and other meat for a long time. Consuming products require one to know very well how to consume the product they buy. Hence the need for preparation advice by the vendor to the consumer. Vendors and consumers The pork vendor assumes so much about me as his customer. He sees me as his source of income. He ensures that he offers the best services and good when I go to his butchery so as to keep me as a regular customer. By offering the best services to me, he is more at ease and assured of my return to buy from him. Although, at some time, he does not meet my expectations, he still meets my primary pork needs. The vendor is always alert on reminding me to cook the pork well to ensure my good health. One day, he went to the point of asking me to do an experiment on pork. He even gave me advice to dip a piece of pork in coke soda and see how pork has little worms active that needed to be thoroughly cooked in order for them to be killed. I would very much have liked my vendor to disclose to me on every occasion where he gets his pork from. By disclosing the information to me, it will both be good and healthy for his business and my health. My knowing how well monitored the pigs whose pork I consume are, I can choose if to buy or not independently. The disclosure by the vendor about the active worms in pork was so scaring. I even stayed for almost half a year before taking pork. It as well made me avoid other types of meat in fear of similar active contents for a long time, until the doctor assured me that it would cause me no harm if well cooked. Work Cited Gray, Amelia.
