COMPARISON ESSAY- MARRIED LIFE WITH SINGLE It has aptly been said that man is the product of society. All his needs, desires and requirements arefulfilled within the set up of society while interacting with the other members within socio-cultural boundaries. A society is amalgamation of various institutions, among which family maintains matchless significance and implications throughout man’s life. It is family that provides its members with food, shelter, protection, comforts and enjoyments. The establishment of familial life is generally outcome of marriage. Marriage is one of the most primitive as well as most significant of the social institutions, the outcome of which is the growth and development of family life and reproduction. An overwhelming majority of human beings marries at least once in life, because less than once is not possible at any cost. Marriage is thought to be the only permitted and admitted source of developing sexual relationships between two individuals. The three Abrahamic religions i.e. Judaism, Christianity and Islam lay stress on the significance and utility of marriage. All the three only allow marriage between the members of opposite gender; it is therefore the institution won applause and got popularity all over the world. Human generations, spreading from one corner of the globe to the other, are also the outcome of marriage between their parents belonging to opposite sexes. Some people are of the view that there is certain age of marriage for which they must have to wait. On the other hand, few consider ideal partner important to get married. The former have bright chances of leading longer married life, while the later mostly waste prime of their youth in search of soul-mate, which they seldom meet on the road of life. The Heavenly Scriptures including the Holy Bible and the Holy Quran vehemently lay stress on the effectiveness and necessity of marriage, and declare it a powerful source of avoiding debauchery and fornication of all types. “It is not good”, according to the Bible, “that the man should be alone.” (Genesis 2:18). At another place, marital life and affection out of it as well as spending money on wife is admired in these words: “Husbands, love your wives… so ought men to love their wives as their own bodies; He that loveth his wife loveth himself; For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it”… (Ephesians 5:25-33). The Holy Quran also favours married life and declares it not only a way to remain chaste, but also a pious method of fulfilling carnal desires and of reproduction as well. At one place, the Quran says, “Keep your wife and reverence God…” (33:37). At another place, the Scripture supports marriage in these words: “Among His proofs is that He created for you spouses from among yourselves, in order to have tranquillity and contentment with each other, and He placed in your hearts love and care towards your spouses. In this, there are sufficient proofs for people who think.” (30:21). Both married life and single life maintain their advantages and disadvantages. One of the most important advantages of single life include freedom of moving everywhere without any restrictions. A single adult is answerable to none for spending his late hours outside home. He can attend the company of friends, clubs, hotels, recreational public places and wander here and there with nothing to get worried regarding domestic life. In the same way, he is free to move in the country and even outside the country for job, business and immigration purposes. Mobility of single person is far easier than the married couple along with the burden of children. A single person is also free from the heavy encumbers of family life. “The most ordinary cause of a single life, Bacon views, “is liberty, especially in certain self-pleasing and humorous minds, which are so sensible of every restraint, as they will go near to think their girdles and garters, to be bonds and shackles.” As he is to feed himself only, his expenditures are limited and bearable even within limited resources. Furthermore, he can live and stay anywhere and everywhere outside his house, for he is normally habitual of rough and tough as well as disorganized and irregular life-style. A single person has no grave concerns regarding what to eat and how to bake. He can enter any hotel and restaurant even during late night hours to have something to grab from there and even from an ordinary tuck-shop too. Furthermore, there is no interruption in the everyday routine life of a single person. The fear of losing one’s freedom and liberty keeps man away from getting into matrimonial relationships. Man has to reveal all secrets of his life, even nudity, as well as interests, liking and disliking, hobbies and personal activities; because there remain no secrets between life partners after marriage. In single life, man is not bound to perform anything for anyone at home. He is independent both in his bedroom and kitchen, and can entertain himself out of his own free will. There is no one in his life to have care of him/her both physically and financially. He can go to date and can choose partner of his own choice even on temporary basis. At residence, all things and articles are one’s own choice in single life, without imposition of the other’s command or instructions. He can decorate and furnish his house according to his own choices and selections. He is not bound to clean his place and do petty jobs at home regularly. There are some advantages of married life too. In fact, marital-knot contains lots of benefits in its fold. Man gets a close friend, a sympathetic partner and a sacrificing soul in the form of spouse. All the delights, pleasures and happiness are shared heartily in the company of life partner. Life-partners are not only share-holders in joys, but also they contribute to the sorrows, pains, grievances and worries of each other. A good spouse is a complete source of eternal mirth, and joyfulness of life is accelerated to a great extent in the company of a loving and devoted life-partner. Moreover, both of man’s basic drives, i.e. hunger and sex, are met in a proper and regular way within the framework of matrimonial life. Man obtains love, warm feelings, proper diet and physical comforts, while woman seeks protection, financial security and concept of family after marriage. They can have sex whenever they desire within the sanctions of both religion and law. They are free to discuss each and every subject without any limitations. They can reproduce to have innocent babies, cackling and playable acts of whom make both of them laugh enough to fly all the feelings of tension deep into the air. Life takes commendable soundness, stability and regularity after marriage. Furthermore, man is more concerned about his financial matters and looks more devoted to earn his money and make progress in life. It is therefore he applies all his energies and efforts to become successful in life. In addition, both husband and wife obtain counsel in the form of one another and two heads often make better decisions. A loving and compassionate couple has no need to seek advice outside their home while undergoing any sort of problem or facing any type of difficulty as they can take steps by deciding any matter out of their own, for they have high-quality views of every aspect of life now. The passion of love and emotional attachment give birth to new and novel ideas, and life finds many gorgeous and pageant colours on its broad canvas, which have been concealed from eyes and hidden under the thick pile of bachelorhood, matrimonial isolation and aloofness. Furthermore, man and woman perpetuate their strength and beauty by reproducing new generations. Marriage is the only acceptable way for this purpose to involve in reproductive activities and have legitimate children subsequently. Financial matters are also solved easily and in an amiable way when both husband and wife share pecuniary matters to come out any economic embarrassments related to their home sweet home. Conclusion To conclude, both married life and single life have plus and minus points. But it is fact beyond doubt that marriage completes man’s life to the great extent, because it is an old saying that man and woman complement each other. Many of the opinions concentrate on the fact that man’s high aims, objectives and plans get significant set backs in married life, because he has to pay due heed to his partner, children and house. All such liabilities and responsibilities may detract man from achieving his goal and objectives by slowing down his velocity and affecting his capabilities. Even then, the blessings of married life are much more than the bachelorhood and single life. There are main topics and problems which can never be shared with anyone other than the member of family. Man is unable to discuss some aspects with his parents and siblings too, and it is only spouse who can provide him emotional, moral and financial support. The basic human need i.e. sex can be fulfilled properly in married life. The researches reveal the very fact that married person has probability of long life than the bachelor, because family life offers man lots of comforts, soothing and relief. The most dominating benefit of single life is freedom and liberty, but it can be achieved by avoiding interruption in the work of spouse.
