? The Art of Japan, China and American Indian Introduction Before going into further details in discussing the contrasts and resemblance of Japan, China and American Indians arts, it is relevant to lay down first the general meaning of art as a whole. According to the dictionary, it is a routine way of thinking and doings in a systematic way and based on principles. All the doings in relation to art has connected concepts depending on the time and place. The four main factors involving art are rhetoric (persuading people), grammar(interpretation of meaning), poetics(connection among elements that lead to conclusion), and dialectic(discovering the truth from peoples opinion). Every country has an art that belongs to their cultures. It is amazing to face the fact that they are all different and varies to the places they are located inside the globe. Japan, China and American Indian have different kinds of art and it is exciting to scrutinize each one of them, how they are related and the contrasts between their arts. This brief should answer the issue whether the differences of their art affect their relationships as a human being living in only one planet, the Earth. I choose to discuss this topic because I find the art of these three countries amazing and very unique. The art of Japan and China have a big influence to one another considering the fact they both belong to the yellow race and located both in Asia and American Indian art in the western part of the globe but could this influence the other two countries from Asia or vice versa? Japan, China, and American Indian art The art of each country is a reflection of its history and it changes on its every transitions and periods. Each of them also has an effect to the world and there are cases where in arts of certain countries are adopted by its neighboring countries or even countries by the other side of the world. Paintings are very popular to these three countries and the only difference is the themes applied because this primarily depends in their respective history. Some arts that they have in common are Pottery, Sculptures, Carvings, Philosophy, Poetry, music, theatre, literature (Mark Schumacher, 2010). Japan and China The Dragon art originated in China and it symbolizes as the protector of the Buddhist Law. Imperial Power, Guardian of the Eastern Direction, etc. This art has a positive attributes to the Chinese. The dragon Art of Japan also originated in China. We can see and realized that the two countries, Japan and China share the same art considering that they are two different countries with two different cultures. And in fact, this art is very popular among the Asian countries. It is believed that the enemy of the dragon is the Phoenix and a man known creature to be known as the Karura. In contrast to Western mythology, Asian dragons are considered wicked and malicious because it is said to transform to human and mate with human being. And also in the Western Mythology, dragons are considered an ordinary thing although sometimes fearful but it can bring them wealth and good fortune. There are also instances in the Western countries that the immortals are fighting to the bad dragons that are the reason why dragons from the western part of the glove are considered foreign ones by the Japanese and the Chinese. In China, The wisdom of dragon already exists even before Buddhism is introduced. Around 2nd century BC when the Dragon art was found curved on the tomb to dispel the bad spirits and it is also during this time that Buddhism is introduce to China. Until then that the dragon is considered as the protector of Various Buddha’s and its law. Both in China and Japan, dragon is use in temple names, carvings, painted on the assembly halls, etc (ChinaAbsolute Tours). Chinese history is 4000 years old, in comparison to the other cultures in the world, it isconsidered to be superior especially when it comes to technical perfection. It is considered that the Japan art is copied from China. It is the Buddhist Monk that introduces the Chinese art to Japan in between 6th to 7th centuries. On the other hand, Japan did their own version by adding some unique ideas. Japan and China keep themselves away from the influence of the western world but along the way, some where in the 18th century; as it was introduce by the Jesuit missionaries, Japan adopted some ideas in the art of the western world because of the influence of their ruler that time who happens to be interested in the western art. Horoscope is one of the most popular arts worldwide and it originates in China. Horoscope is adopted by many countries along the western and Asian part. Many people in all races believe and use this as their guide in their daily activities. In contrast, this art is not recognize by the scientist around the world. In Tengus work, it is very evident that in the construction of his work, he was under the influence of the European methods. He uses a new way of thinking base on the European idea of writing in identifying the Chinese culture style situating within the context of history and culture. This only proves that there is an inter connection between the arts of every nations (Go, H). Native American or the American Indian art is very unique. It varies according to the location where their tribes are located. Explanations to their art are manifested through the origin of their tribal with the combination of the so called magic and myths. American Indian that is located in the Eastern region, traditional art is popular like decorated pottery, weaved basket, and ritual mask. Those that are located in the West coast are popular by their cave drawings, also pottery, and clay imagery. American Indian art basically originated from the Great Plains. These people are very popular with their eagle feather headdress, highly detailed beadwork, and painted teepees. Some of the art that is popular to the American Indian is adopted from the Europeans. The most common in recognizing the European Influence is the colored glass beads, the use of the brass tacks in their weapons, and the most popular among the rest, the horse. The art of each tribe depends primarily according to their locations and each tribes has a distinguish names. Those from the eastern part is called Chumtaya (Soutrhern Miwok) and Hisutak (Central Miwok), Mono part is called Manaiya (Southern Miwok) and Monak (Central Miwok) from the Northern part is called Hihtaya (southern Miwok) and Tammalek (Central Miwok), those from the Southern part is called Alwiya (Sourhern Miwok) and Chummetak (Central Miwok), and for the Western part Tamluya (Southern Miwok) and Alawitak (Central Miwok) (Curtis S. E. 1924) American Indian art has a big influence to the world. Its popularity gave way to be adopted by some countries like the in the Western part and in Asian countries. For example, eagle feather headdress is very popular that even the kids around the world are making it as a part of their costumes in some of the activities in the schools or in the parties. The horses are even more popular mong the adults usually used in the action movies around the world. Bead works are also popular in Western part of the globe. It is very evident in the accessories that are frequently used in fashion shows or even during ordinary days as daily accessories. Japan China American Indian Painting Chinese Calligraphy Ceramics (Pottery) Pottery and sculpture Chinese Painting Metal work Binsai Chinese Philosophy Bead work Ikebana Chinese Opera Quill work (Embroidery) Origami Chinese Horoscope Leather Items Tea Ceremony Chinese Music Basket weavings poetry Dreagon Paintings Caligraphy carvings Matrtial Arts Ukiyo-e Architecture Bunraku Dolls Gardens Ikebana Kabuki Literature Movies Music No Poetry Swords Dragon Conclusion It is very relevant to say as well as to conclude that religious belief has a big effect in molding and in the evolution of arts in every country. Beliefs are considered to be the center of each art in any part of the world. To be specific with the art of China, Japan and American Indian, the art of this Three countries are among the popular arts in the world. Some of them are adopted by many of the countries in the Western part and the rest of the world. Although some of them have also contrast like how the Westerners look at the Dragons from their point of view or like how the scientist treated the beliefs at horoscope. Arts are evolving and one of the positive effect to its evolution is that contrasts to the arts of every nation is not anymore a big deal for many people in all races in the whole world. Today, arts all over the world is valued and respected not only because of its beauty but because it symbolizes history and belief of a certain country. References Go, H.
