Extract of sample "Environment Sustainability Issues"

I agree to the fact that all organizations have responsibility which looks at environmental sustainability but dynamics of global capitalism prohibits from achieving it. The prime reason for organizations not being able to achieve sustainability is that despite having corporate governance norms in place global capitalism and external factors results in changes due to which business effectiveness is reduced and sustainability is not achieved. Businesses have looked towards focusing on the concept of corporate governance but the actual results have been farfetched. This has been because of lack of proper reforms, strict jurisdiction and proper initiative by organizations which looks at achieving the corporate governance requirements. In addition to it the focus of organizations changes and they are guided by different motives and directives which has thereby impacted the manner in which organizations look towards ensuring better environment sustainability so that care for the environment and the society on a large can be looked at. The manner in which global boundaries have disappeared has highlighted the need of environmental sustainability so that better functioning can be ensured. Organizations have to act morally towards creating an environment which is sustainable so that long term prospect of both the business and the society can be achieved. Despite the increase in the need of corporate governance and organizations undertaking steps in the same direction little is being witnessed regarding the same. The entire problem lies in the fact that the business dynamics and global capitalism has evolved in such a manner that achieving environment sustainability is a problem. Organizations look towards being environmentally sustainable but are not able to achieve the same. This paper looks towards arguing on the fact that it is the responsibility of business to achieve environmental sustainability but they are unable to do so because of the dynamics of global capitalism which is acting as an hindrance in their path to achieve the same. This would thereby look to provide different ways and mechanism which are being directed towards achieving environment sustainability but are unable to achieve it. The paper would also bring forward different propositions through which better environmentally sustainability situations can be created and the manner in which business can look towards fulfilling their duties so that the corporate governance needs are achieved. The different debates concerning globalization have been contentious but no results have been achieved. It is quite evident that different global process like economic, social, cultural, political and environmental have an impact on people and it nearly impacts everyone in the society. Yet there is no agreement regarding the things which are good or bad and the manner in which different people are impacted due to globalization. This has led towards a polarized view regarding globalization and all steps taken by organization towards environment sustainability is often questionable. This has led the discussion between globalization and environment to be in a quagmire and the connection between the two is often undermined. Businesses undertake the moral responsibility of acting fair and creating an environment sustainability model but since they are guided by different motives and the creation of global capitalism has impacted the manner in which business acts. It is quite evident that organizations identify different parameters of corporate governance which will drive their business. The planning process with regard to corporate governance is being clearly identified and is free from any biasness and errors but in reality the business is unable to achieve the required sustainability as other factors of global environment have an impact on them. Global capitalism is one major factor which has decreased the gains which business looks towards achieving from a corporate governance model as all other activities are guided towards different motives. In addition to it one of the reason which has not provided organizations to achieved environmental sustainability is that organizations are guided by profit motive (Schwarz & Saila, 2012). This has even made organizations to undertake immoral ways so that the value of the firm can be improved. The fact that the global world is more competitive and organizations look towards maximizing the returns for their stakeholders has also resulted in reducing the gains which corporate governance should provide. The overall result has been such that it has made organization to look towards having strategies through which gains can be achieved. This can be improved if organizations look at the bigger picture and aim towards creating an environment where the focus would be towards ensuring better environmental sustainability so that business fundamentals can be improved. This has not fetched the results as expected as profit motives guide organizations to take steps which would help them over a longer period of time despite impacting their brand image. The manner in which different organizations work also shows that if they want they can develop policies and mechanism which will look towards protecting the environment. This will help to ensure a better sustainable environment as the focus would be towards creating a business model which is different from other players and focuses towards preserving the environment. This is quite evident at Swiss group where different programs have been developed and implemented to protect the environment and ensure better sustainability (Gentile, 2010). This shows that businesses can move ahead from the issues of global capitalism and can focus towards creating business models which will focus towards better environment sustainability. The major problem lies in the implementation of corporate governance principles which have been developed by organizations. In addition to it only a few companies look towards achieving it in reality which has thereby shown different models being drawn on paper but in reality a few of them are being implemented. This has thereby resulted in not bringing the same rewards and expectation which corporate governance and environment sustainability would have actually provided. The need is thereby towards creating business models which focuses on preventing the environment and identifying ways which would lead towards better preservation of the environment. Organizations do realize the fact that being socially responsible through the process of corporate governance and developing policies which are aimed towards better environment sustainability helps to improve their brand image (Khojastehpour & Johns, 2014). This has helped the society but to a limited extent. This is on the premise that despite giving importance to corporate governance and environment sustainability limited steps have been taken to achieve the same. Organizations do have department and policies which every member within the organization must look to follow but given the circumstance and situation even changes are made to it. This is primarily because of the different factors of global capitalism which influences organizations and makes them to act in a manner which would help them to gain in different areas. The focus thereby shifts towards other issues and brand image is not given the same importance as it should be given. Despite it, the relation between corporate governance and brand image has forced organizations to undertake steps which are aimed towards environment sustainability. This makes the concept of environment sustainability all the more important as organizations have to look towards the society. This will help them not only to preserve the environment but at the same time foster a culture which would be aimed towards preserving the environment. This would lead towards having better environment sustainability and would garner better concerns for the environment. This can happen only if organizations look at the bigger picture and move ahead from the factors of global capitalism as they would otherwise be guided by different motives which would thereby have an impact on their business performance. This would lead towards impacting the business and would have an impact on the overall manner in which different steps towards sustainable environment is undertaken. Opposing Views Different parties don’t agree to the view point that global capitalism shapes the working culture and environmental sustainability should be achieved at all cost. It is the moral responsibility of organizations to act in a manner where they look towards sustainable environment so that they can contribute towards the society. This has resulted in different corporate governance norms to be developed where the aim is towards identifying ways through which better sustainable environment can be created. Everywhere around the globe the concept of corporate social responsibility is gaining prominence and has become possible due to the fact that corporate governance is being given more importance. This has helped to bring about the required changes in which discussions take place in commercial boardroom but little impact is being witnessed in the real world. One of the prime reasons for it is that no strict jurisdiction or laws have been developed which looks towards dealing with the issue strictly. The concept of corporate social responsibility is being witnessed in every field and organizations are looking towards a sustainable environment. Steps have been taken by organizations to create a sustainable environment by saving water, reducing pollution through the imposition of carbon tax, planting more trees and similar other strategies. It is true that organizations have been positive and has taken steps in the same direction but since the concept is not being followed by all due to changing global dynamics the result has been farfetched (Wilson, 2015). This highlights the need that attitude towards climatic change has to undergo changes and businesses which include both transnational corporations and small to medium enterprises need to understand the importance of sustainable environment. This would require major ramifications in corporate social norms and the focus has to be towards implementation of better corporate responsibility which will be directed towards climatic changes. This will help to bring the real change as the focus of organization would thereby undergo the required changes and would promote the required dimensions through which climatic changes will be actually witnessed at different levels. It is true that organizations are looking towards environment sustainability and have devised ways through which sustainable environment can be created. For example wine companies in Australia have given stress on climatic changes and have looked towards creating a business model which focuses towards environment sustainability. But the gains have been limited because of the fact that the underlying logic for environmental sustainability differs from one company to another (Fleming, Rickard & Dowd, 2015). Since, companies look at different dimensions and core areas and are shaped by global capitalism it has resulted in working on different areas. This has thereby impacted the manner in which business looks towards environment sustainability and has made organization focus on areas which they believe would help them over a longer period of time. Based on morality and values it is the responsibility of every organization to show concerns for the environment but the manner in which global environment is changing little has been achieved. It is quite evident from wine companies that they have developed a corporate governance model which focuses towards environment sustainability and the department looks towards achieving those but when business finds an opportunity to look at different dimensions the concept of environment sustainability is left behind. Rebuttal of Opposing views One of the reasons which can be attributed towards not being able to achieve the required sustainable environment is that human rights were not considered an important aspect of corporate social responsibility. This concept is slowly changing and more importance is being given to business and human rights which includes the concept of environment sustainability. The present disconnect which is presently visible within the system have to be removed and a better working environment has to b designed where human rights are given importance (Gallen, 2012). The corporate governance holds true that society at a large needs to be cared and it is the moral responsibility of business to ensure that society is protected. This calls for an urgent need to move away from the factors of global capitalism and aim towards an environmental sustainability so that human rights can be protected. This can be achieved by looking towards protecting the environment so that the society becomes a better place and people are able to take better decision and preserve the overall business community. Creating a model which looks towards preservation of societal rights through the corporate governance model will help to protect the environment as the actions of organizations will be directed towards it. This will help to deal with the issues which global capitalism raises as every organization would focus towards removing the differences so that better functioning becomes possible. The manner in which climatic changes are impacting businesses and the environment on a large is clearly visible but lack of proper initiative has resulted in the impacting the results. It is quite evident that wine industry which looks towards using the environment haven’t been able to devise proper ways through which sustainable environmental policies can be developed (Galbreath & Charles, 2014). This is based on the fact that lack of public knowledge regarding the manner in which climatic changes are impacting organizations and has impacted the environment is unknown. Little sharing of knowledge and information on this regard has been influenced by global capitalism and factors through which better functioning is being looked at. This has thereby reduced the overall gains and has impacted the manner in which organizations look towards environmental sustainability. The overall mechanism has thereby been largely limited and the aspect of sustainability has lost its importance It is correct that organizations are morally responsible for acting fair and ensuring environmental sustainability but in reality it is hardly achieved. It is quite evident that organizations pick up morally correct conduct and rules which they look to follow but over a period of time the moral values are converted into compatible structures which enable them to ensure better results and performance (Besio & Pronzini, 2013). This has thereby resulted in creating a mechanism where organizations over a period of time don’t look towards being corporate responsible towards the environment but depicts in their style of working that their consideration for the environment is high. The overall framework has thereby resulted in impacting the manner in which organizations look to take different decisions and has not provided the same rewards which the organizations look towards achieving as the concept of environment sustainability is not given the same value. Organizations further have looked towards using the concept of corporate governance mainly for the external stakeholders and don’t look towards covering the concept of environmental sustainability through it. This has thereby given little importance towards framing policies which helps to ensure environmental sustainability. This has been aided by the fact that organizations are further influenced by changing corporate governance need which is influenced by global capitalism (Costas & Karreman, 2013). Giving less importance to environment sustainability has provided the leakage through which organizations have taken different decisions which has impacted the manner in which business act. The result has been disastrous as the overall focus has been towards bringing the change in the manner organizations work but diving more importance to external stakeholders haven’t helped the business to be able to garner the same result. Further the cost which corporate governance presents before organizations has also forced many organizations towards not being so active on the concept of corporate governance. This has made organization being guided by motive through which they can maximize their gains (Munilla & Miles, 2005). The overall framework has thereby resulted in impacting the manner in which global capitalism has impacted the manner in which environmental sustainability is being looked at. This has thereby limited the manner in which organizations look to work as the focus has changed and the business is not able to ensure environmental sustainability. The overall framework has thereby made organizations to use different fundamentals which have not fetched the result which was expected. This has thereby impacted the manner in which corporate governance and environmental sustainability is being looked at as business looks towards gains other than creating an environment which is sustainable for the organization. It has been further analyzed that the lack of interventions to deal with the climatic changes haven’t fetched the same results which were expected. Since, the overall framework was aimed towards political rather than economic interventions it has impacted the manner in which climatic changes were being implemented (Sodano & Hingley, 2013.). The overall framework has thereby not fetched the expected results as the determinants look at not providing the same gains which is expected from the concept of environmental sustainability. The overall result thereby has been limited as organizations haven’t been able to use the concept in the manner through which better results can be achieved. The framework requires that organizations understand the manner in which they look towards environmental sustainability. This will require focusing towards improving the concept of corporate governance and developing a model where stern actions are taken towards preserving the environment. Business fundamentals has to look at understanding the bigger concept and giving more relevance and importance to corporate social responsibility. The manner in which organizations work and take different business decisions has to thereby undergo the required changes as the focus has to be towards environment sustainability. The focus has to be towards long term goals and the business will have to undermine the role that global capitalism plays. This will help them to look at the bigger picture and would provide an opportunity through which the business would be able to work on core areas. As a result the business would look at achieving environmental sustainability so that overall business fundamentals are shaped towards better results. Further organizations will have to incorporate strong corporate governance norms and make it compulsory for all the participants to abide with it. This can be helped by strict jurisdiction and rules which looks at implementing strong rules so that the manner in which organizations look after the environment is improved. Having strict regulations and forcing organizations to abide with them will help to bring about change in the manner organizations look at environmental sustainability and will help to develop ways through which better sustainable environment can be created. This will help the society on a large and will prevent organizations from misusing the concept of global capitalism for their gains. Conclusion The paper thereby highlights the manner in which business are unable to achieve environmental sustainability because of the dynamics of global capitalism which is acting as a hindrance in their path to achieve the same. The paper provides justification for both the views and finally presents the manner in which organizations are not able to provide justification to the concept of environmental sustainability as the focus of business is towards maximizing gains for the stakeholders. This is being supported by the fact that organizations are not able to determine the manner in which they will look towards corporate governance and are guided by profit motive. Organization tend to adopt strategies which would help them to work towards the concept of corporate governance but on the backdrop of it look towards maximizing their own gains. This has thereby undermined the concept of environmental sustainability and would require that organizations identify ways through which better sustainable environment can be developed. The framework requires focusing in corporate governance and identifying ways where organization look above the concept of global capitalism and aim towards creating an sustainable environment so that long term gains can be maximized.
