Surname: Presented to Institution Name, Location Date Protection of water sources Introduction every other citizen in Nepal has the right to access enough water that will be able to meet their basic needs such as sanitation, cooking and drinking. It is critical to ensure that all citizens benefits adequately from Nepal’s abundant water through the production of enough energy and food at a reasonable cost. For many years, the efforts of development in Nepal has focused in it water resources. Despite all the efforts to make sure that the country meets the needed basic needs on water and promotion of the economic growth that is related water development has been too slow for the country’s people. Just as the people of Nepal are growing the demanding pressure put on the existing water resources is increasing. With these demands and the frequent risks of water pollution reduces the availability of portable water and increases the potential of conflict of water resources in the future. God has blessed Nepal with unlimited natural resources; it is known to be second largest country throughout the world with good natural water resources. The lives of the people are closely related to the water resources, they play a significant role in improvement of the nation. Using the water resources the country has been able to do many things that have improved the live of the people such as production of electricity, cooking, drinking, and irrigation (ICIMOD, 2007). At the moment the water resources serve as sources of entertainment in the country, many people have fell in love with rafting in the rivers and boat riding in the lakes. The rivers also act as the regional and national boundaries. If the water sources are well sustained and protected, then Nepal can improve it agricultural production adequately (VU, College of Arts, 2013). It is of high relevance to understand that rivers that flow near and through the cities of the country are significantly getting polluted. The lakes and the small streams within the country are also under the threat of pollution due to many human activities living around them. Urban development and industrialization are another threat to the sustainability of the natural water resources, an example of rivers that have been affected by the two are Prewar Tal and Bagmati these two are no longer rivers rather they seem to be drainers of dirt. The water resources are highly getting affected due to rapid deforestation, the amount of water in the rivers has been noticed significantly to reduce (Kadoka T, 1992). People living in the interior regions of Nepal have gotten used to the continuous changes in the seasonal patterns of supply of water. The people have resettled within the natural springs in order to get enough drinking water although in the driest season they stay without. People are now more concerned with the fact that the resources of water is rapidly declining over time. The exposure to the climatic hazards, rainfall and temperature variation and the potential of the people to adapt with reality, these are some of the factors that have to be looked into in order to be able to intervene well (VU, College of Arts, 2013). Design A. (solution to the problem) There are many ways in which water resources within Nepal can be protected and preserved. Forestation is the first step that should be taken. Trees and other plantations should be planted in all the regions that are barren and open. The forests that already exist should be maintained and protected. The rivers and lakes that are within the urban areas can be preserved by making batter drainage systems alongside them, management of the dirt from the from industries and factories within the cities should be well managed (Dowling, 2013). Another main strategy towards achieving sustainable water maintenance is through proper water storage. Using facilities such as tanks to tap and store rain water is very useful, construction of dams along the mainstream, in order to store water to be used during the dry spells, helps a lot in reducing the lack of water during these seasons. To meet the maximum demand water the waiting times for collection of water throughout the Nepal is expected to reduce when many storage facilities are available even when small amounts of water flows through the river or when it rains overnight. When the water comes in excess other methods such as the use of ponds is important mainly to use for both irrigation and livestock (VU, College of Arts, 2013). The techniques that save water in irrigation are also good when practiced. Such techniques as micro-irrigation, terracing, should be promoted among the people. A program to ensure that there is public awareness concerning this issue is very important. People who do irrigation have to be trained on the conservative methods that are used on irrigation. Cultivation techniques that retain the moisture in the soil are some of the techniques that need to be practiced. Regeneration of the vegetative cover to help in getting sustainable grazing and management of fodder is helpful to farmers that practice mixed farming (Dowling, 2013). Alongside the advice that people receive on intervention at the local level, the department of soil conservation and watershed management of Nepal have to seek technical support to help in the improvement of the sub watershed management and to plan through geographic information programs (ICIMOD, 2007). The process of planning marks the beginning of building the capacity of the community members and the officials at the local areas in rethinking of how to manage the valuable sources of water just the climate changes from time to time. Instead of just accepting the changes of the climate as an unavoidable threat towards their water sources, people living in the regions have the chance of planning and practicing the strategies that make sure there is the stable supply of water in the future (VU, College of Arts, 2013). If the preservation of water resources becomes a success within the country, the country can earn the itself revenue from foreign countries. The rivers in Nepal are very suitable for many activities such as rafting. Production of more hydro power that is highly needed for both use within the country and even be sold to the neighboring nations can be achieved. The future of Nepal entirely depends on how properly is water resources are used and managed (Kadota T, 1992). Design context and impact in Environment, Social, Economic and use of local rosaries DESIGN CONTEXT (VU, College of Arts, 2013). With time, it has been recognized that the water resource protection and development, needs to be more closely integrated together with the sustainable economic, environmental and social developments. In addition to the designed policy programs that have been laid, some guiding principles have been developed to enable the achievement of the national goals on the social, economic and environmental sustainability. These particular guiding principles and show the impact that the above design context has on the social, environmental and economic contexts in Nepal, these guiding principles and impact are very important and inherent component of the approach towards achieving the mail goal of protection of the water resources (VU, College of Arts, 2013). Impacts on social developments there are a good number of positive impacts on the social lives of the people as compared to the negative. The projects put in place to counteract the problems are entirely positive, for example, all projects that are put in place are owned by the people and they are encouraged to participate in a development of the projects in order to make sure that their lives are transformed by the projects. The sectors that deal with water in Nepal are responsible for making the lives of its people batter through public awareness programs and provision of medications (Dowling, 2013). Through the programs and projects long term food security in Nepal will be realized, sustainable irrigation programs will ensure that food within the region is not problematic. The socially and economically groups that have been disadvantaged for the long time or the vulnerable groups such as the disabled will be targeted to ensure that they are assisted and benefit from the project properly. This will ensure that the values of the projects are felt within the society. The support of both genders will be encouraged and this will make the society balanced in terms of gender roles. In the past women entirely depended on men as the family sole breadwinners but these projects will give a chance for women to earn money also to support their families (Dowling, 2013).Through public awareness programs, the level of maintenance of the quality of water will be increased and the degradation will be reduced. After all the projects have been implemented the people who were adversely affected by the water problem should be well of (VU, College of Arts, 2013) Impacts on economic developments the economic position of Nepal will and significantly increases immediately the projects are complete. These projects will address all issues of poverty and reduce unemployment within Nepal, this way the living standards of the people will increase. The development of the hydro power projects will satisfy the domestic needs of the electricity, therefore, increasing the national share of energy needs. The projects will earn revenue from exportation to Nepal (Kadota T, 1992). Through irrigation programs, the rate of food production is expected to increase and, therefore, the expenses that are usually spend by importing food from outside the country will be saved for other economic purposes. The users of the water will experience relieve from the high cost of drinking water as the projects will make clean water available. The level of poverty in Nepal will reduce when the entire project implemented achieve their development goals as food, water that are the basic need of human survival is availed (Sheathe AB, 2000). In the long run, the private sector have to enter into water sector this will provide an increase in sharing of the needed capital and the capacity to operate in the water area making it even more successful. Sharing of the economic benefits of the projects throughout the country equitably helps the country to recover uniformly without leaving others aside. The cost of polluting water will be directed towards those who are responsible making it more affordable for the people and reduce it significantly (VU, College of Arts, 2013). Impact on the environment through the projects, there will be an increase in public awareness, support and knowledge concerning environmental protection, management and conservation. These are highly essential in ensuring that there are sustainable security and development of the water resources (Frederick KD, 1999). The projects will also see to it that there is conservation of biodiversity, the rare and endangered species, endemic and the natural habitats including the natural forests, wetlands are given good priorities when planning, managing and protection of the water resources. The availability of total water quantity and quality is very important human and the health of the ecosystem. The water resources projects will ensure that the amount and quality of water meet the needed standards that ensure safe for human consumption, aquatic ecosystems, irrigation and recreation and finally species and their habitat (VU, College of Arts, 2013). The projects will ensure that there are reduced incidences of both the natural and human induced disasters and impacts by use of sustainable protection of watersheds and other resources of water. The avoided natural and man induced disasters include landslides, pollution, global warming, flooding and siltation. The productive ecosystems such as forests will be saved from destruction by use environmentally acceptable developmental projects that will fully fund the environmental protection and improvement that will compensate for the impacts of the projects on the environment (VU, College of Arts, 2013). The impact on the use in local rosaries the fact that the projects will advance the production of quality water will help a lot in many farming activities including cultivation of flower farms and other horticultural crops. Most of these crops use non salty water and this will be availed through the projects (Kadota T, 1992). The agriculture could have been challenging to many due to lack of enough water burn through continuous harvesting and storage through the project, water might not be a problem anymore, therefore, making the agriculture through irrigation affordable and achievable for the common citizen of Nepal. These projects will greatly impact positively in their lives. It is the future of Nepal’s citizens (Sheathe AB, 2000). References Dowling, D. C. (2013).
