Future Image Supervisor Study program Future Image. Over the last centuries, human activities have played a major role in polluting the environment as evidenced by the rapid change in global climate. Global warming is a threat to the future and scientists have come up with pictorial representation of how life will have changed by 2030. Even if emission of greenhouse gases stop today, the quantities of the gases in the atmosphere are large enough to keep human beings on heels for the next thirty to forty years (DEFRA. 1972).Man have perfected survival techniques even in the worst of condition, this technique are termed as adaptations.

It does not only mean endurance, but also taking advantage of the situation and deriving satisfaction out of the challenge. The picture below was drawn in the year 1972 to mimic how human beings view the challenges and how they will respond when the time comes. It represents a domestic house with all systems designed and fitted to protect the occupants from the anticipated negative effects of the 2030 climate while deriving comfort from the bad climate. It is clear from the image that the designer foresaw what we are experiencing today; perhaps a little earlier than the author’s time allowance.

It portrays a world with high toxic materials in the atmosphere and elevated temperature to the extent that buildings are assuming new design feature to handle the change, every aspect of the picture shows that systems are fit residential houses specifically to handle some form of waste materials or to reduce the accumulation of unwanted substances. Some of the design feature portrayed in the image shows change in life style brought about by the climate change, application of enhanced technology to help humanity cope with the new environment is also evidenced in the image.

To someone who lived at the time this picture was drawn, the image represents how much human beings have deviated from the correct path and putting the coming generation in problems. People of that time interpreted the image as a warning sign for what the coming generation should be prepared to meet. It is also a clarification of how the author expects people to respond. An interview by someone who was alive at the time this image was drawn reveals how much people felt uncomfortable with the trend of greenhouse gases emission, people believed that the trend will harm their grandchildren and as a result, a number of policies were passed to regulate toxic gas emission.

The content of the image seem to be both a threatening and a friendly message to people who are alive today, it compels people to be friendlier to the environment, therefore, they are bound to making decisions aimed at protecting the environment. At personal level, it coerces me to avoid burning carbon and chlorine-containing materials in open air since they are the major gases contributing to global warming. The image makes the current generation to feel the same way people who lived in the 1970s felt, they are bound to make similar decision of fighting greenhouse gas emission in order to protect the future or atlist slow down the effects.
