A letter to the premier Paul Jameson 15 Pilgrim Way Theodore, VA 49385 March 18th 2014 Office of the Premier, Legislature Building 10800-97 Avenue Edmonton,  Alberta T5K 2B6 Dear Sir, I have pointed out that the federal government is relaxed on the climate change issue, and this worries me as an environmental student. Climate change is a global issue with world consequences. In 2006, warmer temperatures were noted across the globe for the 30th subsequent year. Appreciating average temperatures are melting polar ice cap and glaciers and appreciating sea levels, endangering coastal regions at greater jeopardy of flooding. Mounting proof shows that these dynamics are not the outcome of the mother nature- variability of the climate. The hypothesis of man-induced climate dynamics is endorsed by many respected scientific organizations with the American National Academies, the Intergovernmental Panel and the British Royal Society, on Climate Change being no exception. The IPCC launched by the World Metrological Organization back in 1988 and the United Nations Environment Programme, released its fourth evaluation report in 2007. It acknowledged the fact that the climate change is as a result to human activity since the 18th century – propelled by overloading Carbon Dioxide in the environment (Government of Canada 2002). One of the concerns affiliated to climate change is more gradual. Rivers and lakes now freeze and thaw earlier than they used to, making hard in maintain and building ice roads that are important for numerous northern communities in Canada. With the 0.5% of the worlds population, but Canada contributes to 2% of the total world greenhouse gas ejection. This nails Canadians in the midst of the greatest in number ejectors, population with a low density, and the quantity of goods Canada export. For instance in 2005, more than 23 tones of the green house gas were ejected for each individual in the state: this outlines an 8% rise since 1990. Canada’s ejections rise between 1990 and 2011 was accelerated by increased ejections from the specimen fuel production and transportation. However, there was a reduction from 2005-2011 this was influenced by ejections reductions from the electricity making and creation (Government of Canada 2001). Climate change is most likely to have various effects on different sectors. Economy sectors that may be of importance cooperation with environs that is, those that heavily depend on rainfall occurring naturally, overflows or temperatures may be largely affected by the climate change. Agriculture, forestry, and coastal practices fall in this section. The Canada state should take instant actions to curb this problem since; first one of the most climate sensitive sectors is the agricultural sector. Researchers have clearly shown that greenhouse gas ejections will result to a reduction in yields of lots of crops. This means that the agricultural sector growth will deteriorate with time and the country might face a food crisis if and only if this problem will not be solved early enough. Second, the government should take immediate action due to increment of the sea level. Studies show a notable increment in average level sea over the next century (Thomas 2005). The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) approximates 44cm seal level increment over the next eight years or so, though the figure has a larger range of surety. The sea levels over the past eight years has risen by 8-12cm. Canada is a state of unlimited distances and a well distributed population, an economy geared by reproduction and exportation of natural wealth and high population growth rate. Each of this factors lead to an increased energy demand in Canada, and this is the major factor of the green house gas emissions. Air pollution is mostly associated with green house ejections. Airborne substances have effects on pollution and people’s health or rather the general quality of life. There is reduced production of the farms, fisheries, forests, and many species put at risk due to poor air quality. Most of the residents in urban areas where pollution is a major factor of causing climate change, reports show that, in these areas, most of the people admitted in hospitals is due to being affected by this pollution (GHG) ejections which causes health complications. To reduce this rate of health deterioration among people the government needs to take action and ensure that pollution is minimized in these areas (Rodney 2009). To reduce the green house gas ejections the government need to come up with policies and measure to address climate change and the quality of air which included; Coming up with rules and regulations for the green house gas emission from cars and working with the united states to come up with rules governing heavy vehicles. Developing and implementing a climate dynamic and energy plan that agrees with that of United States, Canada’s biggest business partner. The state should put in place united states automobile ejections minimization goal. However, the government of Canada should closely follow through their efforts to control re usable contents in the supply of fuel. Gasoline is needed to contain only five percent of re usable capacity, as of December 15, 2010. These rules are among the wider governments plan on re usable fuels. The government should implement a two percent reusable requisite for the diesel fossil. The government of Canada is determined to taking motion to work on the quality of the air that the citizens inhale by minimizing air pollution, coordinating with the private sectors, zones and the colonies to come up with plans that will make sure pure air and unpolluted surrounding for all the Canada citizens by : Establishment of the transparent national levels, to change management from freely adherence of rules, to oversee development and give the outcome to the Canadians on the development that the country is making in minimizing pollution and green house gas release (Canada 1993). The government should be persistent in ensuring that the contaminated sites are well cleaned. Through putting its resources in contaminated sections clean up, the government should strive fruitfully restore established sections. Continued consultation with the zones, private sectors and the citizens should be put into place and to achieve goals for the minimization of both internally and externally air pollutants and the green house gas ejections. Water pollution can have impacts on the health of Canadians, the economy and the natural surroundings (Canada Natural resource 2011). For instance the quality of water can cause water transmitted sicknesses and breakdown. Health problems associated with water pollution are estimated to cost three hundred dollars yearly in Canada. The state should be persistent in making sure that all the citizens have connection to dependable and promised clean water supply through making sure that the water resources are used wisely both sparingly and eco friendly. The government is faced with certain constraints in implementing and developing these policies. Financial constraint is one of factors that the government faces, the federal government may not have enough finances required to implement the set strategies. This means that the state may be forced to borrow from the immediate sources for example World Bank. However, by protecting forestry those who have inhabited these areas cannot vacate at zero cost, these means that the government has to make equivalent compensation to the measure cost of these lands. This can be corrected by the government creating awareness to Canadians on the importance of forestry conservation (Wilmot 2009). In conclusion, climate change problem should handled by taking significant actions and help improve the environmental progress of its own activities. With this in mind, new strategies need to be developed in the sectors of green buildings, greenhouse gas ejections, consumption of paper, and electronic waste. Plans need to be implemented to create a lively environment, for instance the governments buildings should meet the green building legal, environmental plan. We must consider that this is a worldwide problem. Policies will involve procedures by all countries to eradicate green house gas emissions. To make worldwide cooperation, the United States and other wealthy nations may need to subsidize actions by unwealthy nations. Development of new technologies should be supported; this will slow climate change specifically on energy developments that have a reduced rate of GHG ejections. In addition, carbon taxes should be set as a measure to slow climate change. This will regulate the ejection of carbon dioxide to the surrounding (Canada government 2002).
